Brand New to RVing - Greetings to All

Greetings from MD,

We are new to Jayco, FW towing and are excited to get started. We have ordered a 2022 Jayco Eagle HT 31MB which is scheduled to be delivered to A&L in Richmond, VA in late June of 2022. In preparation for delivery, I would really appreciate some feedback on a few questions I have. I have been reading posts on this site for weeks, so I know what I don't know.

1. Given our limited experience, is an inspection by a certified RV inspector while unit is on dealer lot money well spent? Recommendations in the area?

2. I have decided to have the dealer swap the installed pin box for a 16K Goosebox before bringing it home. Read good things concerning the GB and like having my bed easily cleared as it is my daily driver. The FW will have 16" wheels and Goodyear Endurance tires and I will make sure the springs are in the lowest shackle position to gain as much height as possible before I leave the dealer. Tons of post on rail clearance and towing nose high. Does anyone else have a similar set up and will the GB and trailer setup provide a level tow or will I be looking to gain additional trailer height?

3. Any other first timer tips I should know or pitfalls I should avoid before bringing it home?

Looking forward to sharing our travels and trials as they unfold.

Yes it is imperative that you do a detailed pre delivery inspection on your new unit. And if you are not completely comfortable doing it yourself, then absolutely hire an inspection service to do it for you.

In addition, DO NOT pay for or take delivery of your new unit until you and/or your inspector are 100% satisfied with it. The number one trap that new buyers fall for is the famous "make a list of problems and we will fix them under warranty" line that dealers will tell you. That sounds great and gets people to sign on the bottom line. However, that soon turns in to frustration when they find out that the next available warranty appointment is 6 months away and even then parts aren't available. Save yourself the hassle and make sure that it is perfect before you take delivery.

Oh, and welcome to JOF. I hope that you find your time here friendly and helpful.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. The forum has already helped me in making many choices concerning my new FW.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Plenty of PDI checklists you can print off and take one with you.

Congrats and welcome to the group! Follow Midnights advice and you will be fine. I have been "pushed" several times to do paperwork first to save time and then do the PDI. Do not allow it. You are in control of the transaction not the dealer...

i wouldn't pay and inspector for a new rig.. but then maybe with what is coming out that isn't such a bad idea... Maybe you know someone who has some experience in looking for things that are broke or not up to to par. Plan on spending at least 2-4 hours going over the rig before you give them any more money... try everything make them hook up the water check for leaks, run the furnace run the air conditioner get under it and take a look.. get up and look at the roof etc... note everything wrong with it and let them know you'll be back with the rest of the money when it is all fixed... after you give them the money they will take their time to fix it.. before ... the market has definitely softened up... use it to your advantage....

being a new bright shiny toy don't let the brightness blind you... look at it no different than a used one... be picky it isn't a cheap expense...

Welcome Aboard!

My 2 tips. First trip out is somewhere close to home. Maybe 30-60 minutes away. Second tip, bring paper and pencil, to jot down notes.

This won't replace the need for a careful and thorough inspection before accepting it, but remember you will probably have to get a Maryland safety inspection before you can get your registration and tags. The dealer in Virginia will only have a temporary tag.
