Changing over to Jayco

We pick up our new trailer next week. Super excited! 1st Jayco that we have owned. We have had 2 trailers in the past 3 years. The last one only lasted 258 days. That one was destroyed by baseball sized hail. The previous one was severely damaged by golf ball sized hail. We hope the Jayco Eagle HT roof will fair better, but realize baseballs are asking a lot of any camper.

Welcome from Georgia. I've had two damaged from hail. Finally put up shed. Out of sun and winter weather. Money well spent.

Yeah, I agree. But I don't have that option. We cannot have it at home, and the place we park it would not be happy with my building skills If the last one didn't have holes through the roof and the ceiling, I would have just had them replace the roof.

Not sure about the information, but I am a firm believer in "no pics, it didn't happen".

Two damaged by hail! I won't ask what your insurance premium is in that part of Colorado.

LOL! Not nearly as much as the annual owner's tax. . . . But, I'll bet it goes up this time. The trailer and one care were totaled this time. The SUV had a lot of damage, but was less than a year old so they will only repair it. The house gets a new roof, decks, skylights, etc . . . This stuff dented my 1/8" stainless steel grill.

My roof doesn't appear this bad, but the neighbor's roof had every roofer and insurance agent stopping to take pictures.Click image for larger version

Wow! I've only seen pea size hail but nothing even close to the size of a golf ball or softball. I can't imagine the force and sound of these things when they hit the roof of a car, RV to house. It's got to be pretty terrifying. I was sitting in my truck the other day parked under a tree when an acorn hit the roof. Scared the heck out of me.

Well I'm glad no one was injured and the insurance company is covering the cost of repairs/replacement. My understanding is the size of the hail depends on how many up and down cycles it goes through before becoming so heavy the updraft can't overcome the weight. Those golf ball size hailstones must have made scores of trips up and down through the thundercloud, picking up a new layers of ice each cycle, to get that big. If you can get one intact you can count the number of layers to approximate the number of cycles.

O.K., grandpa is rambling. Enjoy your new home on wheels!

I would be thinking about some thinner plywood to put on the roof while in storage. Your RV's seem to be a hail magnet. Hope your new one fairs better!
Congrats on your new RV

Congratulations.. you guys get some weird weather for sure. My daughter lives in Elizabeth and had hail damage on her TT also...not as bad as yours but it was totaled. No storage under roofs out there ?

Good Luck with this new RV..

Welcome...lots of good advice and help here. Have a 17 Eagle. Not too impressed with the toughness of the roofing material. So far have had to seal four small punctures caused by low hanging tree branches which occurred while I was bringing the fiver to the house to prepare to travel. Although I try very hard to avoid any contact I’ve still had the problem so I check very closely each time I come into or out of the neighborhood. Pulling with a Ram 2500 4wd so it’s tall. Evidently taller than the delivery vehicles which are routinely in and out.
