First post/question

Hello all,
This will be our first trailer of any kind; Jayco 26bh. We actually haven't even picked it up yet but will in the next couple of weeks. Pulling with a '08 Ford Sport Trac, 4.6L V8. I have a ? for anyone who might have purchased the extended 5yr warranty for their unit and has gone past the 7yrs that gives you. Supposedly if you don't make a claim you should get most of your $$ back. Has anyone encountered this; is it worth the money?

Hello Arrow - welcome to the forum. Can't say I can answer your question. We opted out of the extended warranty. We didn't feel it was worth the money. Jayco offers what seems to be an excellent 2yr warranty which they tend to honour quickly. Most people on the forum seem to be pretty content with the standard warranty, and those who've had issues shortly after the warranty expired seem to have been happy with Jayco's response.

So long as nothing structural goes wrong after that we have no worries. Main thing is to inspect & correct all caulking top to bottom once or twice a year to keep things waterproof.

We picked up our trailer last week, started loading it up and found a few issues that needed mending - the dealer took it right back and sorted things out, no charge & no hassle. Jayco appears to have a very good record & reputation with some dedicated owners.

Let us know what you decide!

We opted out of purchasing the extended warranty as well. Most of the problems that will happen, will happen in the first year you own the unit. The same applies to any other product you buy. Car, Truck, Electronics, Television, Fridge, Oven, Stereo, Alarm, etc.....
You may want to investigate the warranty further. What does it cover EXACTLY! Will it carry over to another owner? The 2 year warranty only covers the original owner.

Hi Arrow1 and welcome to the forum. My wife and I own the same model you are getting and we love it. We opted out of the warranty primarily because of the Jayco reputation. Happy campin!

Welcome to the forum Arrow1. My wife and I have just been discussing this very issue. You can see the description of our Jayco in the signature below. We have only had a couple of corrective issues with it and no problems getting two different dealerships to do the fixes. The dealership we purchased from and another much closer to home.

Probably the two most difficult were the shower enclosure coming apart. It had been installed improperly. A screw had been left out in assembly and it was difficult to repair. Almost the entire enclosure had to be removed and reinstalled. Then there was the problem with the leaking stove vent. We found this to be a design problem with the vent cover outside and could not stop it. It caused damage to the kitchen counter top, which later was totally replaced under warranty.

My wife was talking with our Jayco Dealership yesterday. Our original waranty runs out in August of this year. It is our understanding that the extended warranty will NOT cover everything the original warranty covered. Our understanding is it will only cover mostly moving parts, such as slides, slide motors, awning motors, refrigerator, etc... I think the cost was $2600 to $2800. There was no mention of reimbursement if not used. If anyone has more information on this subject, I would certainly appreciate it. I would be especially interested in what IS COVERED. It's our understanding that this warranty is not directly with Jayco but contracted to someone or something to an insurance company.

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome,
The warranty covers pretty much everything; batt. charger, water heater, waste system, fresh water sys. A/C, range/oven, LP sys. heater, fridge, awning spring assem., chassis frame, suspension and brakes. Sounds good right? Reading further; to qualify for the guaranteed price rebate, there must be no mech. or other benefit claims made during the entire term. I'm assuming (and I'll check with the dealer) that means even the original Jayco 2yr warranty must not have a claim against it. I think we're leaning towards just the 2yr Jayco warr.

We did purchase the extended warranty for our trailer. The cost was $1523 for an additional 6 years and if we dont make a claim, we can get the money back, use it as a credit at the dealer or apply it to a new trailer. The specifics are in the big do***ent we received and I will have to re read it.

Since we had no experience with TT's, I chickened out and bought it. Expensive yes, but it does give us some peace of mind regarding big expenses. In my case, it makes for a warranty of 8 years.

As a note, if you are buying a new car, extended warranties are considerably more expensive than this. I have noticed the car manufacturers list a variety of options for these (particularly Honda).

Good luck

Hi Arrow1 and welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum! We also opted out of the extended warranty. If you do choose to purchase the ext warranty, shop around online. Because of the mark-up with many dealers, you can often find the same warranty (read all the fine print of course) for less. Enjoy your new 26bh!!!
