First time rv'er

Hey all. My wife and i just bought our first travel trailer! We got a Jayco flight slx 264bhw. Towing with a 2003 gmc yukon 1500. we have 3 kids and two dogs. Goodbye tent! Now i hope my yukon can handle the load for a few years so we can upgrade to a bigger truck.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new trailer! The forum is a great place to learn and ask questions. I'd recommend looking at some of the "sticky" posts at the top of the "Towing, Hitching and Tow Vehicles" section for information on how to determine what your tow vehicle can safely handle. Good luck and happy camping...

Congrats and welcome! That is pretty much the same as our 26BH and I towed it with a 2006 Tahoe in 2014. What gears does your Yukon have? our Tahoe had 3.73s. I will say my Silverado is much better with the 6 speed trans, but the Tahoe managed it...

Not sure gearing. I average 14-15 mpg with it now. Id guess the 3.73 range. Low rmps at 60 so nothing to bad

Gameover if you really want to know what your vehicle can safely tow you'll have to figure out your TV's specs. There is a wide range of packages in every vehicle and to be honest the power of your engine is rarely the limiting factor as far as safety is concerned. Just my opinion.

x2 on this.
Back when I had my 5er, I used to tow it with my 81 Ford F250 LB. It had that 300 CID straight 6 cylinder with the single barrel carter carburetor. Dana 60 rear end and the Borg-Warner 4 speed with that compound low first gear. If I hit a head wind or hills, it was a guarantee I was slowing down and dropping into 3rd gear and the best I could maintain was 45 MPH. So, while the engine didn't have the power the bigger V-8, the tranny, gearing, suspension and cargo and towing ability were there. One thing I loved about that truck, I got 15 MPG whether I was fully loaded towing the 5er, or when I was running it empty.

Look to the stickers in your door jam for a lot of specs on your vehicle, also, sometimes there is a sticker inside the glove box which will have the specs on your rear end gearing.

Congrats!
I just bought the same camper. If your son is like mine, his feet probably didn't touch the ground running to get inside and look at the new rig!

Have a blast!

CONGRATULATIONS!! Same one for us

Welcome to the forum! We got the same model/year in January. I like it, but look it over well... ours had stuff that needed to be fixed; bed box was separated from front wall/one corner wasn't screwed together; loose bolts/screws, I found a staple working up through the linoleum last week (THAT one will be a stop at the dealer next week, fer sure!) . I'm almost finished modding/prepping ours, at least for the foreseeable future. I'll post pics and a list eventually, it's a fairly long list.
