Hello! An experienced mistake maker joins the forum!

I’ve been following along here for a couple of weeks since trading in our PITA 2016 Forest River Salem 32BHDS and upgrading to our new (to us) 2017 JayFlight 26BH with as few bells and whistles as we could find.... no slides, no power stab jacks! Much less for me to get upset about.

Anyway, I’ve gotten to know many mobile RV techs at various campsites who were more than happy to spend a day and a half with me on of most of the trips we took and even happier to relieve me of half the money we had set aside for the trip. Nonetheless, still some very nice people.

I hope to contribute some of what we’ve learned along the way. I’ve become far handier since starting this RV journey 8 years ago.

Welcome from Wisconsin and congrats on your 2017 JayFlight 26BH! I agree, the less bells & whistles the less that could go wrong.

welcome aboard... you'll fit right in, here...

Mistakes are what we mostly do, with a little bit of camping on the side :-)

Have owned pop-ups and now on 2nd TT over something like 40 years and reached out to a dealer or professional service exactly once outside of the warrantee period. The mistake many new owners make is to run back to the dealer or another RV service pro rather than simply fixing themselves. Most RV problems are pretty easy to address as a DIY project requiring little more than a screwdriver and/or a quick trip to the hardware store. Even warrantee items can often be resolved by the owner saving a tow and a wait at the dealer.

Members on the forum have made and fixed most of the issues that you will come across on your RV. Describe the problem and sit back and read the responses.

I agree with the comments so far. Welcome to JOF!

If you aren't to old to learn something new and are willing to do a little research you can repair the majority of faults that come up in a rv. They all use pretty much the same hardware and they all will at some time need a repair or three.

If so, do what you can physically do and pay someone to do the rest. Just being familiar with your rig and fairly knowledgeable about how the systems work can help you understand if someone is bluffing you about a repair.

One tip I can offer is to keep a small notebook when you are camping with anything that needs attention and mark it off when it's done. That way, you won't forget it when you get home.

I have never forgot anything. I have never forgot anything. I have never forgot anything. And I don't ever repeat myself either. Well once I did forget something but when I went to write it down I couldn't find the notebook so I wrote myself a note to remember to write down what I forgot if I ever found the book.

Seriously this is a very good suggestion. My ability to get out of a room before I forget what I went out to get has demiinished 10x starting at about age 60.
