Welcome Lobster. We also bought an X17Z this year. We had our maiden trip 2 weeks ago. The only problem we had the 3 days we were out was it got a little cold at night. Instead of using our propane for heat, we chose to use 2 small (ceramic style) space heaters since we were paying for the electricity at the State Park anyway. We kept blowing a circuit breaker when both of the heaters were being used, so we ended up only using one. Otherwise.. the "Maiden trip" was awesome ! You will love this little thing! Let us know how it goes !

hi lobster,

welcome to the forum.

i have a similar trailer -- a 2010 Jay Feather 165 (a bit heavier than yours, i believe) and i also have a gmc canyon with the 5 cylinder, 220-hp engine. It pulls the trailer ok on flat surfaces, but strains a bit on steep hills. personally, i would feel more comfortable with a larger truck with a v8 engine, such as a silverado, but for now, the canyon is handling it fairly well.

does your colorado have the new v8 by chances?

best wishes with your camping!

lobster,

when i purchased my trailer, i had an auxliary transmission cooler installed, which helps keep the tranny temps down when traveling. they're usually a few hundered dollars. might be something to consider.

We have a GMC Canyon with the 5 cyl engine. We pull a small flat trailer with either two quads on it or a Rhino. I would estimate around 2000 lbs total including the trailer. It struggles to pull it and using OD is totally out of the question.

Congratulations on the first trip. You should be backing it like a pro with just a few trips.
