Hello from Alaska

Hi, I'm Dave, and am starting negotiations on buying a new 2019 Jay Feather 20BH model up in Whitehorse Canada (the nearest city that sells RV's to my town of Haines AK. Most of the use will be spring/summer/fall camping trips on the numerous Yukon Territorial campgrounds fiound throuought the region. If you haven't explored this area it is stunningly beautiful, cheap, and not crowded!

This unit is setup with the Baja Edition, and has an enclosed underbelly which I am hoping will protect plumbing from rocks as well as overnight freezing temps. Was wondering if anyone can advise on what to ask about, or have installed on both my tow vehicle (a 2006 Chev 2500HD w 6.0L V8) and the RV itself? Am looking for things important to add and what is or should be included in the final package. Also need advice on brake controllers (if those are still used) and I need advice or good suggestions on truck mirror extensions as mine are the stock ones that won't extend far enough.

I'm not a new RV'er, but haven't owned a trailer since the 80's (a 26ft Holiday Rambler) as my other ones have been either truck campers or a 29' motorhome.
Thanks, and I hope I can pull a deal next Tuesday when they open!

I know there a lot of gravel roads in Alaska. If you intend to travel much on them very much you might consider adding mud flaps. And by mud flaps I mean heavy duty ones that are reinforced. Same for your tow vehicle to prevent some of the rocks hitting your trailer. The mud flaps will help prevent rocks from taking out your drains.

That's a great idea, and I have a pair of very HD flaps that look like they came off a semi truck. They are too tall but if I mounted then horizontal they would really should give max width protection.. Gives me an idea for a welding project!

Thanks everyone for your responses!

Sitka a beautiful place , and a paradise for boaters! Haines often is too windy for my 20' boat, but has the highway out to the Yukon so a real RV paradise, particularly if you like being way out there.. The other night in our little camper up on the North Klondike I could hear wolves howling late at night!
View the other night of a lake and mtn's from our campsite on the last night of our trip.
