Tony, welcome to the forum. I love Vancouver Island. Been there a number of times when I was on active duty in the US Navy flying in and out of Comox. Everyone up there was real wonderful.

Hey Tony welcome aboard. See you live on Vancouver Island. Wife and I planning a trip to include the island and am totally confused about what to do. Maybe you could help. Want to probably stay 3 nights (enough?). Leave rv in Wa. take ferry stay in hotel or take rv on ferry? Need vehicle to get around or public transportation? On our to do list right now is Parliament building, tea at the hotel, and the gardens. Which ferry to take, we're coming from stays on the Oregon coast. Hotel/RV recommendations. Have a 23' travel trailer and preference would be to stay in it on island but open to suggestions. Any info would be appreciated.... maybe repay you someday. We live about 90 minutes south of Yosemite and mostly do western states rv travel but just completed an 8 week 9,200 mile trip from home in Clovis, Ca. to Williamsburg Virginia and back. GREAT time!!! Thanks, Steve

Smile VI Visit

Hi Steve. Three days is not enough time to see much of the island but here's my advice. Coming up from Oregon along the Washington coast on HWY 101 take the Black Ball Ferry out of Port Angeles. You arrive on the island a short drive to Victoria. In Victoria, the downtown "inner harbour" area is the place to see. Lots of old English charm, great restaurants and some really good pubs. From there you can whale watch, visit the provincial museum, watch IMAX films (a Canadian invention), visit Hatley Castle and Fort Rood National Historic Park or just people watch and shop. A short trip outside Victoria are the world famous Butchart Gardens (if you go,go late in the day to see it in daylight then stay to see it at night). If you can squeeze a couple of extra days in I strongly recommend the drive to the west coast of the island, Tofino. It's about 3 1/2 hours drive from Victoria but you get a chance to see some of the wildest and most beautiful coastline on the west coast of North America. On the way there stop at Coombs Country Market to see the "goats on the roof" market. The bad news is getting trailers on/off the island is very expensive (around $250 return depending on time of year and sailing). If you do decide to bring your trailer I recommend Pender Bay RV Resort. It's a 15 minute drive to Victoria but it's one of the nicest RV parks on the island. A cheaper option is Goldsteam Provincial Park (unserviced) which is very nice. Hope this helps. Tony
