Hello from Fenton, MI

Purchased a 2007 23B in the middle of last summer and loved our second-half of 2012 with it. Couldn't convince DW into venturing out over Christmas break  but will as soon as possible this spring! Looking forward to this forum and hopefully learning enough to have the courage to try a mod or two. Happy New Year all! Will post pics soon.

Welcome to JPF JSBRUBI! Belated congrats on the new tt! I'm also trying to convince DH to camp soon. Where we're from in California at least we can do so without snow if we venture to the right place

Hello and welcome to the JOF, JBSRUBI. And a Happy New Year from a fellow member of the JOF in South Lyon. Looking to possibly buy a house in Fenton (Tyrone Twp., actually), so I can be closer to U.S. 23. Happy Camping!!

We're new to RVing in general, but we only camp at State Parks. Not sure why, really, other than we have the Michigan Passport on our license plate tabs. Happy Camping!!

This year we'll be at Brighton, Tawas, Mitchell, and Aloha so far. Don't know what others yet but may still be state parks. Michigan does have a great system.

We've been to Brighton, but haven't camped there yet. This summer, though, for sure, because I can leave there and go to work and return the next morning (I work 24 hour shifts), and thus camp without having to take time off of work. Mitchell is on our agenda for next winter, and Tawas is a possibility. We camped last year at Aloha (our maiden voyage) and absolutely loved it. We had site #13 or 14, right on the lake. Beautiful sunsets is an understatement. Can't say enough good things about Aloha SP. Happy Camping!!

We have camped at Ludington SP (Ludington), Aloha SP (Cheboygan), Hartwick Pines SP (Grayling) and Rifle River SP (Rose City). Loved every one of them, and all for different reasons. We have scouted other parks during our travels, and tried to pick campsites that we would try to get if we were going to camp in those parks. We drove through Burt Lake, Straits, Tahquemonon, Brighton, Silver Lake, and Holland. What was your opinion on Straits SP and Porcupine Mountain SP? I have heard all good things about the modern CG at Porcupine Mountain (Union Bay) SP, but the black flies could be an issue depending on the month you were up there. Any suggestions/comments/concerns/opinions? Happy Camping!!

We were at Porcupine in August and it was not an issue with the flies. I think if you go in June you may have flies. The park was great with lots to do. Union Bay is the only park I personally would stay in as it is more modern and has electric hook up. I am not set up with a generator or solar so camping on the other end of the park would be tough. The Straits is OK and not as great as many of the other parks I have stayed in. The difference is you are rarely in the park as you are site seeing at Mackinaw Island or Mackinaw City.

Either way, camping is camping and we always have a good time.

Agreed!! We always have a good time camping, too. Seriously; how can you not? That could be a new threaded discussion in itself..... We drove through Straits SP last summer to get an idea as to where we might want to camp (specific site), and it didn't look as if there was a whole lot to do for kids. We've been to Mackinac City and Island so many times we wouldn't need to do any more sightseeing, although it would be nice to be able to use our own bikes as opposed to renting them on the island--$85 last year for 3 bikes....OUCH!! What I liked most about that SP is the view of the bridge...Wow!! Thanks for the information regarding the Porcupine Mtns; we aren't set up to camp off the grid, either, so Union Bay will be our destination. Hopefully in 2013. Hopefully. Happy Camping!!
