Hello from Northern Minnesota
Hi, My name is Chuck and am new to this site. I live in Northern Minnesota and have just retired from 35 years with the local phone company. Camper experience in the past has been a 27.5 ft Winnebago Class A motorhome and a Jayco pop up tent camper. Now that we are retired and want a little more room and comfort we would like to get an Eagle HT fifth wheel . We have a 2014 Chevy Silverado double cab with 6.5 ft bed trailer pkg with electric brakes and tow mirrors. Has 3.42 gears with a 5.3L engine. I know it may not be the best setup for a FW but it is what we have for now so need to make it work. Been looking at the Eagle Ht 27.5rlst and the 26.5rls, we like the floor plan of the 27.5rlst better but not sure if our truck will handle it ok. Any of you folks that may have something like this that can give me some helpful tips would be appreciated. Nice to talk to you all and introduce myself and look forward to talking to you all.

Not sure your pickup will do the job towing a 5er.
I think your axel ratio is too low, I think you need at least 3:73 or even higher. Without that your going to really work your motor.
Others will chip in more ideas.

Hi Chuck, WELCOME to the FORUM!!!! I'm Don and I retired from Ameritech (1998) after 25 years with the phone company.
Not sure about your trucks capabilities with a 5er. I do know that if you have a 5 speed trans (and the 3:40 rear end) you will be traveling most of your time in 4th gear, if it is a 6 speed you will be traveling in 5th gear. The other issue may be that your trans will keep up shifting and down shifting when you encounter little hills. If the truck is in GREAT shape, why not look into having the gear ratio changed to a 3:7x ratio (not sure what GM gear ratios are). It is a LOT cheaper than a new truck and your gas mileage will pay for it in the long run.

I am from WV, but spent an academic year north of Ely at a place called Widjiwagan around 1995. I love Minnesota, and Minnesotans! I've been to all states but AK, and it's up there! Can't help with your technical stuff, since we have an A-frame. Happy Campning.

Hi,
Welcome and Hello from Iowa. I am fairly new to travel trailer towing also. Just joined the group a few days ago. We bought a Jayco JayFeather Lite 25F last year and we love it. Looking forward to more camping this year now that we have a better vehicle to tow it with and are familiar with the trailer now. Welcome aboard.
