Hello from Toronto Canada

I just bought a 2017 Jayflight SLX 264 BHW on Saturday, from a local dealer in Whitby Ontario. I had been looking at a bunch of different trailers. As happens sometimes in my professional life, the scope of what I was going to buy kept growing a bit. I started out thinking of buying a pop-up, then an ultra-light hybrid with tent ends. We looked at a bunch of the lighter weight camper trailers, then we settled on a pretty classic fun-machine, the SLX 264 BHW.

We plan to take this thing across Canada. I just sold my house in Toronto, and we're buying in the Okanagan. I'm 47, and I've been a professional software developer since my twenties. I am not quitting my job, I'm taking it on the road with me, and taking about 3 or 4 weeks off during the heart of the Cross Canada trip. But I plan to work from a few places along the way, so I can make the trip longer than it would be if we were just trying to get to British Columbia.

Last big road trip, we slept in a tent. So you might say this is a bit of an upgrade.

I'm looking forward to swapping setup tips, and ideas and asking questions around here. Lots to learn. I have literally never even towed a popup before. But I'm a smart guy, and I'm gonna take it slow, do a few LOCAL camping trips before we head out on a major Cross Canada trek.

Hullo everybody.

Warren

Hello Warren. Congrats on your new TT purchase. We purchased our first TT 3 years ago to travel across Canada with our two children. It has been the best family investment as we have made so many great memories. Living in Northern Ontario we are literally in the centre of Canada so it was easy to do one coast one year and the other the next year. If you are interested in some places to stay I could certainly pass them on to you. We did Manitolin Island, Toronto, Port Huron and upper Michigan last year and had a blast. This year we are going as far West as Winnipeg then down to SD, NE, IA, Wi and MN.
Some advise I could pass on would be to have a good WDH and good towing mirrors. I also try not to drive longer than 5 hours a day. The prairies can get very windy so on those days I will try to get on the road early to get a few miles before the wind would pick up. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Hello Warren, from across the lake!
I can only assume you took full advantage of the TO housing market!
It's like winning the lottery over there if you already owned a house.
It's all filtering this way too.
I flip houses in Burlington. To buy in on a tiny dump close to downtown..1 million. It's insanity.
They sell within hours.

Yep..if you don't have at least 50k deposit ready at the time. Don't bother playing.
A couple months ago a house in Toronto, small original 50's style, went 1.2 million over the asking price of 1.1 million.

Welcome from the Sunny Okanagan Valley. When are you planning to arrive here. Looks like it will be a beautiful summer here. Book your campsites in this neck-o-da-woods early. Safe travels and happy camping.
