Hello from Upstate NY

Hello,

I've lurked here and other places for a while, as we have been renting TTs for a couple years until we decided what we wanted. We were using our Ram 1500 to rent different units using Outdoorsy and RVzy, but after using these experiences to zero in on what we wanted, and also realizing the true capabilities of what 1/2 ton trucks are meant to tow, we've upgraded our truck and bought our own.

And, the winner is...

2022 Eagle 284BHOK
2021 Silverado 2500 HD
Equal-i-zer 1400/14000 hitch

We drove down to Alabama to get it, camped two nights (AL and VA) on the way home, and have all kinds of adventures already booked.

We will be 2 adults + 1 child + 1 dog about 90% of the time, with friends and relatives joining here and there. So this truck and RV are a good match for us...the truck and hitch towed like a dream 1,100 miles home (at 9.5 mpg for anyone wondering).

I will say after doing so, and already encountering all manner of crazy truck drivers, weather, hills, abrupt stopping, wind, etc...I am a little surprised that Jayco advertises this series as "half-ton towable." My Ram 1500 would have been way out-classed by the numbers, but even if there are a small number of 1/2 ton's which could do it on paper.........I'll just say..........I wouldn't be a guy who wantd to find out what that's like. This thing is a beast.

About our 284BHOK, and why we travelled all the way to Alabama for it.

1. PARTY COUCHES. I have yet to see another dealer who orders them this way, but Burton Camper in Calera, AL does. Essentially, you get two couches, the larger of which folds out in to a bed, and the smaller reclines. But come meal time they both come with a table that fits into the floor, so 5 adults can sit and eat with hip and leg room to spare (I'm 6'2" and "well fed"). With folding chairs on the other sides you could easily seat 8...more with kids. So for us, we will usually have the bigger couch set with one table, and the smaller with recliners in front of tv will be just that.

2. AMERICAN CRAFTSMAN interior. In researching, most units have MODERN FARMHOUSE, which is nice but we prefer the other.

Dual A/C's, full solar, 12v fridge, 16" wheels, dual pane frameless windows.

And we received our Blackstone griddle the week after we got home! I guess their backlog is better now, as everything I was reading indicated people have been waiting months in some cases.

In any event...see you on the road.

Welcome and congrats on the new rig. We downsized from a fifth wheel as well.
Our maiden voyage is next week.

Sweet, Empire State well represented!

We already have some in-state adventures booked. Watkins Glen KOA and later Letchworth State Park.

Would love Adirondack recommendations, as well as Keene Valley area.

If you ever venture to the southern tier, Lakeside Campground in Windsor is really nice. As secluded as you are going to find. Just don't be shocked when you are driving back 5 miles of dirt road to get to it. But, beautiful once you get in there.

Hello Decatur,

We just returned from picking ours up in Calera, AL. Camped at Cathedral Caverns on the 1st night.

Alabama is beautiful!
