Hey there----

I happened upon this forum while Google searching for a coupler lock for the new Jayco we just ordered. Since we are getting ready to purchase our third Jayco, a Jayco owners forum seemed like a logical place to be.

Like I said, this will be the 3rd Jayco we've owned. We bought a leftover brand new 99 pop-up in 2000. We enjoyed that for about 4 years and decided to move up.
So in spring 2004 we ordered a Jay Feather LGT 27P. It was built just after the model year change over, so we got one of the first 2005's made. We have greatly enjoyed that one for 9 summers now.

I recently called our salesman at Northern RV in Quinnesec, MI and inquired about how much it would cost to move up again. We were "eye balling" a White Hawk 28DSBH. It looked very attractive except for the standard 15' "micro awning" it came with. I asked our dealer if a bigger awning could be had and the factory's reply was a rather terse "NO". The whole reason for getting a new camper was to 'upgrade' and since our current camper has a 16' awning, a 15' awning seemed to be moving in the wrong direction, making it a deal breaker IMO. We spend A LOT of time while camping outside under the awning and found things rather cramped under the 16' we have now. We were going to do a factory order for the White Hawk since I also wanted the optional insulation package.

I started looking at the Eagles and found the same basic floor plan in the 284BHS and with a 18' awning. Plus it already has the cold weather insulation package and has available thermal pane windows. We checked with our credit union loan lady and found out we were a "go". FWIU, our 284BHS should be built sometime in mid April and we'll be trading our 2005 in. We ordered our new Eagle 284BHS with the 15,000 BTU AC, 2nd AC prep with 50 amp service, bike rack cargo tray, electric stab jacks, outside grill, roof ladder, upgraded counter top (SSSSHHHHH that one is a surprise for my Mrs) and thermal paned windows. I hope to have it in my driveway sometime just after the 1st of May.

As for me, I'm a former B-52 tail gunner and former B-52 crew chief in the USAF. I spent 3 years at an area RV dealer in their parts department (biggest mistake of my life) and am now a licensed aircraft mechanic at a local airline heavy maintenance base.

Welcome to JOF, tail_gunner, and it sounds like you've made a good choice in the 284. Please post often, and maybe with some pics of your new rig when you get it.
