Talking Home from the 1st "real" trip

Hello all! We purchased our 2015 Jayco 23MDS about a month ago. We have never owned a travel trailer but years ago did some camping with a slide in camper on an F250. After picking up our new TT, we made reservations at the local KOA for a trial run with friends for a weekend and picked up a few pointers from friends as well as learning how things worked in the new "little house on the hiway". Last Sunday we packed up and headed up to Glass Creek just north of Mammoth Lakes, Ca from our home in Cherry Valley, a 321 mile pull, for a stay of 4 days and 5 nights.
The campsite was a dry camp so we managed to make it through the week with a little help from our relatives we were camping with. The trailer performed flawlessly. We were able to use a generator borrowed from my relatives to charge the battery a couple hours a day so we had no issues with power. The weather was in the low 80's in the afternoon and down to the 40's at night so we didn't need any A/C, but one morning I used the heater for just a few minutes to take the edge off. I was surprised how quickly it heated up the trailer. We learned how to conserve water and save tank space pretty quickly lol. The first time emptying the black and gray tanks went very smoothly at a nearby dump station.
We are looking forward to booking lots of getaways in the future.
Thank you all for the pointers that I've picked up reading this forum for the last couple weeks. I think that reading what you all have done saved me tons of headaches and made our first trip a huge success!

Congrats on your trip and great to hear that everything went well. There is a learning curve and it seems like you are handling it very well. Sure does help to camp with friends and family that have a little bit of experience. May your future adventures go as well.

Don

Sounds like you had a good support group for your first outing. If you plan to do a lot of dry-camping, pick up a Digital Voltage Display, to keep an eye on your batteries condition.
