Hoping to be a new owner soon!

Just wanted to do a quick intro post. My camping experience started when I was 14, and wanted to start working to save up for my first car. A friend of the family owned a Campground, and my father thought that would be a good learning experience for me. My boss wasn't sure how long I'd last, but said sure. I busted my butt from day 1, and ended up working there for 7 more years! Can't describe how much I learned while working there - everything from construction, to maintenance, to dealing with customers, and most of all - appreciating a hard day's work. At the end of that 7 years, I finished up college, moved on to an engineering position, and swore I'd never be a camper!

After a couple of years, my wife and I decided we'd get back into camping, and bought a tent. Fast forward 15 years, we've realized that we really aren't into tent camping anymore. We now have a 3 year old daughter, and a Golden Retriever that goes everywhere with us, and decided it's time to go shopping.

I've spent the winter looking at campers, various manufacturers, layouts, etc - along with our habits and desires. After all this research, I've come down to wanting to order a new Jayco - just need to finalize which one.

I'm leaning heavily towards a WhiteHawk 28BHKS. Unfortunately, this appears to be a newer model, and I can't fine one local to look at. I have looked at several WhiteHawks, as well as a couple of Jay Flights and Eagles - so I have a pretty good idea of what we would get. Since it's still a wee bit chilly in Western NY, I have a bit of time, but I'm planning on ordering in the next couple of weeks.

Long story short, I signed up here to do some further research, and hopefully share my experience once I have made my purchase and learn a bit more.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Lots of us moved from tents to trailers. You're ahead of most making the change because the time you've spend around trailers and talking to campers.

Good luck in your search. I'm sure you'll find a unit that works for you.

Good choice on the28 BHKS model some things I really like about that unit is it's outdoor kitchen that's completely set up to cook and prep. I haven't looked but I think it's one of the few units with a back door and that will come in real handy. The 3' slideout gives you plenty of floor space that will spoil you to no end. When it rains you won't go nuts inside and that's a big selling point for me and my dog.
Your not far from the finger lakes or the 1,000 islands for just short trips so I see many 4 day trips in your future. We were from Rochester and my wife ownes 2acres right on the ST. Lawernce River between Cape Vincent and Clayton and we had many 4 day trips now we have to fly there. Wish I still lived in NY State.
Best of luck to you and yours on the new TT

This is a great place for learning about Jayco products and RVing in general. It's probably the most well-mannered forum I've seen.

And I can definitely say that I do not miss my old tent!

Thanks for the welcomes!

Tunce - small world, my father lives in Chaumont, and I grew up on the river. We'll be spending a bunch of time up there this summer!

WoW, we turn up Millens Bay road from Chaumont, go right to the end and just past the church we turn right, go about 300' and left to the water.
Thinking of taking the TT this summer from Bellingham and if we do I'll PM you. We put power, electric and water in for the TT and this summer I'd like to put a pad in for it. She had the place since the mid 70s. It's a 2br. One bath,liv/kit.

Ha, well we just went from small world to tiny world. My cousins manage (and live right across the street from) Sunnybank restaurant - can't be much more than a quarter mile from you!

Hoping to be a new owner soon!

Small world....my mom has a place just outside of the cape in Three Mile Bay on Lake Ontario. Love pulling the camper up there for a visit. Little bit longer from Ohio, but it just means a longer visit.

Now this is getting fun [emoji1] - my father lives on Three Mile Point, on the south side. I'll be up there ice fishing this weekend!

I looked on Google maps but didn't find Sunnybanks. We are headed that general direction this summer. Sounds like it might be a nice place to have dinner... if we had a better idea of where to find it.

Sunnybanks is between Cape Vincent and Clayton on 12E and it's west of the intersection of Millens Bay Road. It's on the north side of the street or the river side. When you google find Millens Bay then look 4 streets to the left and you'll see Sunnybank Rd. It's right on the corner.

Also keep an eye out for Tunce we've been known to take a walk down that way. This is just off the roadway down the street

Thank you. Found 'Sunny Bank Restaurant' on Sunnybank Dr!

Looks like it is accessible when pulling a trailer, if parking along the road is allowed. Can't really see signs on Sunnybank Dr. using Google.

We love to find places like this when we travel. We'll see if it will work.

You might just park on 12E I walk it and the shoulder seems wide to me but then again I'm just walking.
Just to the north on the Canadian side is where Abbie Hoffman hid out in the late 60s early 70s.It's a town called Fineview and just a beautiful town it won't disappoint .
