How long before sanitizing?

Hi There,

So we did our first trip in November for about 8 nights. It was wonderfu Our RV had a couple of small problems which are being handled.

So our trip was over November 13th. We drained all the lines and are storing it in FL. We are taking it out again mid Jan....for a month!! Yay!!

Do we need to/would you sanitize with diluted bleach again after sitting for 2 1/2 months? We did sanitize with diluted bleach when we took our unit out for the first time.

Also, I don't want to break any rules!
How long do I ask questions in the Newbie forum before I should go to regular forums?

Thanks,
Chris

If you blew the lines out, I think you are OK to just skip the sanitizing process. I typically go a few months between trips without sanitizing but we normally don't drink the CG water...just use it to cook and shower.

If you just want to sanitize quickly, skip filling the water tank with solution. Make a few gallons of bleach solution and draw it in thru the winterizing valve, let it sit for the recommended time then flush with fresh water.

Once you have introduced yourself in the newbie section, I think you are OK to post in any of the other sections.

We get out about once a month in summer and I add a cup of bleach every time I fill the fresh tank. Our Eagle holds 80 gallons and at that ratio you can barely notice it. We don't drink from the fresh tank but do shower/ wash dishes etc with it. Keeps everything fresh that way. Lots of folks on here only sanitize once maybe twice a year and that's sufficient so I'd say you're good to go, and post anywhere you want.

Since you drained the lines I would bleach the system, if you leave the lines full of water no need to. I am like others and never drink from the TT.

I think of it like a hiking water bottle or a camelback. They recommend a vinegar solution to freshen it, so I may do that mid summer with our fifth wheel.

Great!

Thanks everyone.

I will go over with my husband all your suggestions. I like the simpler version of sanitizing and just adding a little bleach to the tank at very fill.

I am starting to understand that clean water wise it's actually better to leave some water in the system.
We just drained the lines because of winter.

The concensus does seems to be not to drink the water!

I think most drink the water from the tank. I just want to ensure the system is cleaned once in a while. In my stick house I don't worry as the water never gets stagnant.

I think we will sanitize but using the method Iraqvet suggested.

After this initial break we will be in it a lot more and at least monthly. I won't worry about it then.

Thank you all!
