Howdy from Cheyenne Wyoming

Howdy from Cheyenne Wyoming. Considering the purchase of a 2014 Jayco White Hawk 28DSBH from the local Bish's RV. GVWR on the trailer is 7500 pounds. My tow vehicle is a 2006 4x4 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab Long Box with 5.9 Cummins Turbo Diesel towing capacity is rated at 12900 pounds. I calculate that the GVWR of the trailer around 58% of my trucks towing capacity. Truck only has 91000 miles on it, I inherited it from my late brother who purchased it new. I picked up a used 2018 Curt 17500 Tru Track Weight Distribution hitch rated at 8-10000 pound gross trailer weight and 8-1000 pound tongue weight for $325 the seller had traded his 32 foot trailer in for a 5th wheel.

Combing the forum I have already found a post on White Hawk Wide Stance Axle Failure that gave me cause to see if the trailer I am looking at has the problem or not. Cant beat that with a stick for sure n for certain. Hoping to gain knowledge and such from fellow forum members.

Welcome, and one of my favorite stops when passing thru is Stanford’s Pub downtown. I’m never going to be able to try them all but I never give up.

Many thanks for the welcome guys.

Checked out the 2014 White Hawk 28DSBH I am interested in purchasing and it is in super shape. The axles are Dexter D35 and are 3 inch in diameter sos they are not the ones that had the problem. Tires on the coach were from 2013 and were in good shape with no bad wear, dealer is replacing tires in the purchase price at my request due to age.

Well, finally brought my new to me 2014 White Hawk 28DSBH home today. Had some delays at the dealership getting her ready to go. They replaced the 2013 tires and electric tongue jack on their dime. The tongue jack had a broken toggle switch for the light and they put a brand new one on. They installed and adjusted my WD hitch. I have a Big Tex 35S utility trailer 14 foot (17 foot from Coupler to tail end) that I am familiar with so I am not a complete newbie to trailers in general. The White Hawk is my first travel trailer so I am still a bit overwhelmed as I get comfortable with operating it.

Can you folks even camp around Cheyenne? I pass through there very often to see kids in Denver and the wind is always blowing 40+ MPH. I thought ND was windy, and it is, but not WY windy. I say that, but as I write this, I am camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park and the wind is gusting 50+. We've had a windy spring.

All kidding aside, welcome to the forum!

Rich,

Thanks my friend. Lived in Cheyenne for going on 30 years now, they say if the wind ever stops blowing in Wyoming everybody would fall down It's been a windy spring for sure n for certain. It was real fun bringing the trailer home from the dealer 6 miles away. Planning to head out to eastern Washington in June to inter my little brothers ashes, hope the darn wind slows down a bit by then. Had to make a trip down to Centennial Colorado sos the wife could see the eye doctor shot on down to the Lonetree Cabelas and picked up a Champion 4250/3500 watt inverter generator for $597 out the door with military discount. The generator is only 80 pounds. Truck got 24.5 mpg down and back. Only bad thing is have to unhitch sos I can open the pass thru hatch on my ARE topper as it wont clear the tounge jack. Thinking of mounting a receiver on trailer bumper sos I can can hook up my cargo carrier to haul the generator in and get at it easier. I guess I'm a real RVer now.

Welcome from Northern California! I’m trying to talk DW into a trip to the Cody Firearms Museum . I don’t think I will mention the wind you folks have.
