I think I finally chose lol...

I just sold an offroad trailer in favor of picking up something a little bigger.

Although I live in FL I am on the road and looked at the 212QBW

I have a Jeep Gladiator (can tow 7,500lbs) so it seem in line.

My only reservation is that I have never towed anything that big...but I guess I would get use to it and really like it over the 18' model. (Plus I will add the anti-sway, eq).

I found a model that has both the Rocky Mountain Edition and the Baja Edition.

I can get a 2021 unit for about $22k. Seems like a pretty good price.

Anything I should be looking at...or concerned with. Am I way off base here Lol?

thanks for any help or advice.

not so fast.
What is your tow vehicle payload?
The tongue weight of the unit you are looking at is 460 lbs. Dry. No water no batteries no propane.

Some of the Gladiators have weenie payloads but I don't know which tranny engine you have.

1150 lbs - full fuel tanks- any water you might want to carry- tongue weight- batteries- propane minus any gear in the vehicle and people can come to the minus side quickly.

Thanks for the assistance. Here is what I was thinking.

The tongue weight for my Jeep is 765 lbs (Max Tow Package). The Jayco should be 4,500+/- before adding items you mentioned.

I probably would not need to fill both water tanks...so I figure adding another 1,000 bringing it up to 5,500lbs. - My Gladiator is rated to 7,500lbs towing.

The GCWR is 12,800. (Jeep weighs 4,500).

I think you misunderstood. Usually the vehicle payload is exceeded before the towing capability is reached.

The weight IN the Tow Vehicle is the most important. The tongue weight counts against the payload The weight of the weight distribution hitch and sway bars counts against the payload. The stuff in the Jeep like you your family and your fuel in the Jeep counts against the payload

Lets think hypothetical:
Tongue weight 460
WDH 100 or so
Propane and batteries 100 or so

660 lbs is within your tow hitch parameters but ALSO counts against the payload of your Jeep.
Full tank of fuel :150 lbs conservative

up to 810. Now if you have one of those 1100 lb payload Gladiators you have 290 lbs of people and stuff that can fit in the Jeep. Better be small.

Or you could have one of the beefy Gladiators. 1600 lb payload gives you lots of wiggle room

Just math that you have to think of and for you to plug in the appropriate numbers.

My Ridgeline has a nice payload and could handle towing that unit( we want one too) but it falls short in towing capacity. Only can tow 5000 lbs and towing at the maximum capacity is not comfortable. It tows our little 195 just fine. But the 212 is 1500 lbs more ( and with a bigger fridge would be more than that!)

I think I am following along so far I just skipped to the GVWR but my Gladiator has a max payload of 1550 (suppose to be 1600lb but there is conflicting data on that). I figured a bit more on twin batteries and propane.

On the plus side, although I have not found anyone on the Gladiator side pulling this...I have found some pulling more weight.

Kim’s advice is sound. If you truly have 1,500+ payload you may be OK. But weight creeps up fast in a trailer. It seems every trip we (DW) add a couple new things that add 10-20 pounds each. Just a few gallons of drinking water is another 25 pounds etc. if you do take the plunge, you might want to consider an Andersen WDH — it works great on these rigs and is definitely lighter than other conventional WDHs. Every pound helps.

Welcome from northeast Illinois.

I agree with Kim and LuckyDuck.

Watch your payload and your GCVWR. There should be a yellow sticker in the driver door pillar that you can see with the open door to let you know your true payload capacity.

You also want to tow a trailer that is about 80% of your towing capacity so you don't wear out your truck and have a more comfortable tow.

Max Payload (on the Sticker) is 1569lbs.

My model can tow 7500 so 80% would be 6,000lbs. (Dry weight is about 4,500)

FWIW “dry weight” is pretty meaningless. Once you fill it up, take it to a CAT scale and see what it really weighs.

Yep...pretty much like other trailers. You can never trust it but a good starting place.

x2 - you will only tow a dry weight 1 time, the day you take it home from the dealer (if it is even at dry weight that day). Always do the math based on the trailers GVWR.

Your numbers look good on paper. Watch your rear axle weight of 3750.

I suggest going to a CAT scale to verify your numbers under camping conditions to make sure. Here is a thread on how to do it.
