new and eager

Hi guys/gals. I've been reading this forum for awhile now and finally decided to join in. We currently have a 2008 Jayco 31.5 fbhs Eagle super lite. The kids have grown and left and we are thinking about trading. We are looking at the 2015 pinnacle 36fbts. We pull with a 2008 Dodge one ton quad cab srw short bed. I have a 15 k Reese slider. The dealer says ok, Reese says upgrade to the 20 k slider. The gross weight of thr fbts is 15950lbs. Any input on anything will be appreciated.

Hello and welcome. I'm relatively new as well. Given the info you provided, I would move up to the Reese 20k slider for sure.

There is a safety factor built in and 15590 is the max. Load as usual and go to a cat scale and see where your at. Might only be 14,000 or so.

Welcome. I'd agree with Reese, upgrade the hitch. Use the search function and there's a lot of reading on which hitch to get.

Welcome. We actually just picked up our new 2015 Pinnacle 36fbts a couple weeks ago. I had a 16k Husky hitch installed and seems to do just fine. Can't imagine we will ever get to the max payload of 15590 lbs. That would give you 3,900 lbs of gear which is way more than I would ever bring along. So I would say you are safe on the 16k hitch.
