New camper

My wife and I just recently purchased a jay feather 27bhb for our family of 3 little boys to start camping and enjoying more time together as a family. We took it for its maiden voyage last weekend all went well except for the sudden rainstorm that broke our awning. It looks as though the back arm is the only thing bent can just one arm be replaced, or should they be changed as a set? The other one looks to be unharmed.

Yes you should be able to get just one support arm depending on the brand..and you will be making wonderful memories for your boys. Also..

Welcome from Wisconsin. Congrats and enjoy making memories in your Jay Feather 27bhb! Did wind or the rain pooling on your awning cause the damage? There should be a way to tilt the awning by lowering one of the arms so the rain water runs off one side. Work OK for light to moderate rain but if heavy rain is expected best to retract the awning.

Welcome, those boys will remember your camping trips, what a way to make good memories.
We always assigned simple tasks to "help" set up. Always with supervision but soon they worked faster than us. Kept them busy with set up / tear down. And a couple times they caught items (wheel chocks, step, etc.) that we missed!

Happy camping and see you down the road!

It was the rain pooling on the awning. The rain came very suddenly, there is a way to lean it but was not tipped enough apparently.

Welcome (from Hamilton Ontario). Great times ahead!
We bent one of our awning arms on our first TT. The part came in from Carefree to our dealer, pricey for a piece of aluminum but it fit and all was well.

Congratulations and welcome! That's a good habit to start those young ones out on, and they will take those memories through life with them! Our youngest son grew up with camping, and most always had a friend to take along with us. He, and those friends are now in their mid 30's, still bring up memories now & then when visiting. They also, every one of them, now take their families and children camping starting a new generation of good times and memories! Makes you proud to share something that special!

Awnings are meant for calm days and light pitter patter rains as far as I am concerned. If you want it out in a heavy rain make sure you are there to ensure the water is running off of it. And never leave the site for a length of time without putting the awning in. There are so many stories of people losing their awnings because they left them out. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.
