New from Canada

Hello everyone.

My wife and I are so new we don't even have an RV yet.
We're looking at buying and importing a new RV from the US. With the trade agreement between us we can save some money's by buying it there.

Before moving forward we're looking for the pro's and con's of making such a decision.

Thanking you for any input you may have.

Regards,

Paul

First of all - Welcome!

Be aware that you will have to consider the following:

You will need the title of the RV and Bill of Sale to cross into Canada.

You will have to pay the GST/PST at the border

You will have to have "RIV" Inspection (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) 45 days from import. If it is deemed non-compliant, the RV must be removed from Canada.

It seems to me that it will be alot of headaches to save some money. Do your homework and good luck!

I did it in 2009 when the exchange was 1%... the US dealer in Ohio took care of all paperwork because people do it all the time. I met them in Detroit (I’m in Ontario)
It was easy peasy.
Took it to Canadian Tire to get the inspection. Then off to get the license.
Traded it in in 2015 and got $2000 less than I paid.

Welcome from Ontario!

I don't know what your timeline is, but there was a major sales boom in RVs last year. I would imagine many of these will show up on RVtrader or Kijiji within the next 12-24 months as people start going on cruises and Disney vacations again. Having a 30ft RV sit in your driveway gets old real fast when you don't use it.
