New from Ontario - looking for my first travel trailer !

Hi all !

I've started the search for a travel trailer and so far its been overwhelming. Floorplans, slide-outs, lengths, weights, grey water, black water, oh my !

I've narrowed down two requirements for any trailer I buy. 1) Double bed for me and my wife. (her requirement, she doesn't want to have to fold down the dining table) 2) Bunks for our daughter and most likely a friend.

This brought me to 2016 Jay Flight SLX 264BHW | Jayco, Inc. My first concern is weight. It lists its weight as 4550 lbs, my truck states it can tow 5500 lbs. Does the 4550 seem to be the dry weight as the trailer ? If so, what should its loaded weight be ?

Alternatively I found 2016 Jay Feather 7 19BH | Jayco, Inc. , but there are no specs.

Google search for "trailer towing calculator"--there you can put in all the numbers for your vehicle and the trailer, including safety margins, and come up with pretty good idea of your limits.

For us a slide- out was a big deal and there are only 2 of us and our beloved companion, Tunce. When it's raining the TT can feel mighty small and when prepping meals and clean up you need some counter top space for bowls and dishes. We couldn't find a new one that fit out needs but the quality-build of a 2010 worked out great for us and at almost half the price.

If you can only tow 5500lbs I wouldn't be looking at the 26bh.. My 26bh came from factory at 5010lbs and is @6200lbs loaded for a family of 4..
You will be over weight for sure.
What type of truck do you have?? What is the payload max of it?
Even the 19bh will be 4000lbs Max, but that would be your best option out of the 2 trailers u listed..

What specs did you want for the JayFeather you linked? I followed the link which had weight and measurements as well as MSRP.

Unloaded weight looks like about 3035# and loaded just under 4k.

Maybe I misunderstood your missing "specs."

The specs for the 19bh are posted now, they weren't when I started this thread.

My truck is a 2010 Sierra, crew cab 4x4 short box, 4.8L V8. Its tow capacity is 5500 lbs.

Our criteria hasn't changed since we bought our first tent-trailer (1st was used and we still own #2 - see signature) but we upgraded to a TT so we could enjoy the great outdoors year-around. Our starting requirements? Bed accessed from both sides (no having to crawl over), outdoor kitchen, not so large that it'd restrict access to campgrounds, and easily towable. Next level of analysis? DH has a construction background so he focuses on build/quality/weight and I focus on storage. Never been disappointed with what we've gotten as a result.

You need to be looking at the "Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (lbs)" This number needs to be under what you can tow with your TV because you need to add the weight of gear and passengers in the truck too.

Where are you looking to tow the trailer. Notice you are from the Sault, so am I. Used to tow a 26ft Jayco Jayflight, bedroom in front with bunks and no slides. Pulled around Northern MI with a 4.8 Chevy
