New from Southern Illinois

Hello All,

I have been a travel trailer owner for many years, and was searching online for some basic info on my new Jayco and found this forum.

The first posting in this section sure has some good info in it. Again, I have had travel trailers and campers for many years, and thought I was an "old pro" at it, but I learned a few new things just by reading the intro and instruction post for the forum.

I have a 2014 Jayco 248 RBS travel trailer now. Traded in the old "large" camper for it as kids are all grown and gone, and it's just me and the wife now!

I love the outdoors and would take a weekend at the lake over a show in the city EVERY TIME!

Welcome. Glad you found us here after all that time.
We think it's a friendly place with a lot of kindred campers.
Hope you participate and join in often.
We camped in DuQuoin years back at a Rv rally at the fairgrounds.

WELCOME ABOARD

Always perk up when I see someone else from Southern Illinois check in. I am a horsecreekers from Jefferson County ILL near Mount Vernon... My family comes from the infamous HORSE CREEK COUNTRY.

Grew up in Bonnie, ILL...

Being from the small towns where everyone is pretty much kin to each other I had to go as far away as Arkansas to find someone to marry we wasn't kin to haha... This almost makes a Texan as well I reckon... Then later on I find out my wife's mother went to school in Fairfield ILL while her family put in all the oll fields around there out of Oklahoma/Texas country.

Roy,

I'm from just down 64 in the Belleville area. I retired out of Scott Air Force Base in 2007, and just stayed in Southern Illinois. I love the Mt Vernon area up around Rend Lake. Wife and I camp at Gun Creek a lot. We also spend a lot of time at Carlyle Lake.

Just can't beat Southern Illinois in the Fall!

Thanks. I've never been to Giant City, but we have that one on our To Do List. A lot of good fishing up there in MN!

Thanks. I noticed your current location is listed as "Charleston." Is that WV or SC? I was stationed at Charleston AFB in South Carolina back in the 80's....Ended up meeting my wife there!

Thanks. There are some nice parks up your way as well. My son and his wife live in Pawnee just outside of Springfield, and they do a lot up your way. I've been up there a few times. Nice country side for sure!

Charleston, SC! I was stationed there for a good many years also.
The AFB is still going strong.

Me too! I was station at Charleston AFB from 1984 to 1990. My wife is from Charleston. She grew up in West Ashley. My in laws still live in Charleston in the West Ashley area. There is a Chinese restaurant just out the front gate on Dorchester Road that serves the best boneless chicken!!!

Every time we come back for a visit, that's the first place we hit! It's the small things I guess

Rend Lake is double edged sword to me... Before REND LAKE I roamed all of the roads and both creeks just NorthWest of Bonnie ILL in my childhood days back in the 50's... Casey Creek from the Bonnie Camp grounds to the Kellers farm road was where I headed for everyday haha... There was a great Indian Ruins there and a whole bunch of good roaming woods trails. We lived on a 40Acre farm back them which came right up to the Little Casey Creek.

We neighborhood boys had a great fort built on the West side of the Creek with only a log to walk across to get to it. We defended our Fort from the bigger boys and was pretty good at it until one of them got a BB gun for Christmas..

Now our farm house and barn is totally gone and the Rend lake comes right up to the where the back door of the house once stood. This area is now a boat launch area for Rend Lake.

I guess progress is number one but this sure covered over my early home stomping grounds for me...
