NEW from the Rock
Hi all! SkiMom here in Western Newfoundland looking to take the kiddos on a cross-continent adventure. Still in the planning stages but in particular looking for towables or c-class that will hold up to winter usage as the base for ski trips. Look forward to getting all your experienced input.

Skimom, welcome to the Jayco Owner's Forum. The size of RV you end up purchasing will be dependent on how many people are in the family, and what you want to do with the RV. A trip across this great North American continent can be a lot of fun. We are currently on an 18 day trip and planning an extensive trip from Las Vegas to Alaska next spring/summer. Since there are only two of us, we went with the Jayco Melbourne 24L. If we still had children at home we would have gone with a larger RV.

Welcome and good luck on your first phase of your journey, picking the right unit. As pointed out the choice of a unit is dependent on a wide range of requirements. To get the best feed back when asking for information be specific in your request. As jkatas7 said how many people? What size? Many sleeping locations can be listed as, adult usually main bed and cabover or main couch, child dinette or jacknife sofa . The request for winter travel opens up a whole different set of requirements. While most units can be used in the winter, there is a large list of modifications that will need to be done to make this practical. It is one thing to use a winter camper at a camp site and a completely different thing to use a camper on the road. At a camp site you can be hooked to electric, utilize extra propane sources, even in some cases be hooked to water and sewer. Driving down the road you have the added effect of apparent wind chill which will cool the unit even quicker.
I️ am in the process of moving some of my water lines in my unit from below the floor into easier conditioned spaces, adding heaters into the service water bays. Even getting insulated carpeting to keep floor warmer.
Other considerations are the roads you might be driving on as well as the conditions of those roads.
Sounds like an exciting vision you have and completely doable with the proper foresight and planning.

Welcome to the forum! You will get lots of useful information from people that know their stuff. We just got back from 9 nights in Wyoming with mild nights in the 20's and 30's. I don't know a lot about camping in the cold, but I do know that winter usage adds some special needs and concerns. The Jayco Glacier Package adds extra insulation in the floor and ceiling, but the insulation rating is still nowhere close to what our house in Colorado offers. And remember that slideouts don't count in the extra insulation department.
There's an interesting map and chart that can help you understand insulation ratings here: https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/insulation
It doesn't go quite as far north as you, but offers info that might make you understand what a salesman might be talking about as you are doing your shopping.
Happy winter camping!
