New guy from the sticks...

Hi all,

I am a new Jayco owner as of this weekend, and am new to the forum as of today.

I bought a new Jayco 2016 Pinnacle 38FLSA over the weekend. I am planning to live in the unit 2-3 weeks per month year round in a sparsely populated area along the clear water river in Northern Idaho. This is my first 5th wheel, and first time winter camping in an RV.

I am excited about the new adventure and all of the lessons I am about to learn!

Welcome and enjoy that new trailer and it sounds like an area I've explored 15-20 years ago. At the time we just packed in a few weeks several times a year and ate off the land. That area was on and near the Kootenai River. Those were the best years of my wilderness exploring, if you have to hide that's the place.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket ...
since this is your first time winter camping, you do have a plan to deal with the cold temps, don't you? It would be a rude awakening if your first lesson was frozen and broken water lines.

I did a lot of research before choosing to do a true four season capable 5th wheel.

Since I plan to use the unit on a schedule like every other week (without towing it home) I will use heated hoses, empty all tanks when gone, disconnect the water connection, and do a blow out of all waterlines. I'll also leave the basement heat running to keep the temp well above freezing. I will have employees on site that can check the unit for me daily to ensure the heat is still running.

Aside from that little 'plan', I am still trying to get the rest of my to do list in order. Worst case scenario, I could fully disconnect and move the RV into my shop on site. The problem there is it would slow production so this would be more of an emergency scenario and not an ongoing plan.

Welcome to the Jayco Forum jaydub. I am officially jealous because of your location. I'll be heading that way as soon as I retire in 3 years. I'll be the guy with 5 weight in his hand and a **** eating grin on my face. So does your handle happen to mean JW as in Journey Wireman?

Vicr - PM me when you retire and move to the area. We can do some steelhead fishing. I am not an electrician. JayDub is a nickname my neighbor gave me when I was a scrawny little kid working on his Chevy restorations with him. He is the reason I have a 'car problem' today - though my problem is mostly 4x4s... hahahahahha
