New Guy from Utah W/ a question

HI JOF
I just bought a ’07 186 Feather Sport. My first TT but I have had RV’s in the past. We love it! DaWife and I are first year empty nesters and have moved to Salt Lake City for work in August. We are surrounded by the most beautiful country I have ever seen and we are looking forward to getting out in it. The 186 fit us just fin, comfortable and compact. We just moved from the Calif. Coast and my last “RV” was a 30 foot cabin cruiser that we would take to Catalina and the other Islands and “Camp” so I am a bit rusty on this land lubber camping. Any advice is welcome!!!
About my 186…
I’m 2nd owner. Barn kept all year every year. 4500 Gen. 45 Watt Solar panels, outside BBQ, oversized wheels, custom pull out drawers, back hitch w/ 500lb rack and lights, and it looks brand new. I guess you can tell I’m a bit proud.
Question; My TV is a 04 Yukon w/ a big V8. Do I need a WDH or Sway control?
Thanks for being here. I look forward to getting to know you guys and I have already found a great amount on info here.

Welcome to the forum, Freebird. Here are the specs on the 07 186. I`m thinking you would have a better towing experience with WD and sway control, but not sure if you absolutely need it. Loaded hitch weight could be over 500 lbs. Perhaps others will chime in. If not, try posting the question in the Towing and tow vehicles forum as not everyone views the new members forum.

FLOORPLAN 186

I had a very bad personal experience in my early days of pulling trailers (dirt was new back then, LOL). Had a WD and friction bar sway control on a 5,000# trailer. Had loosened the sway bar for easier maneuvering around my place. Fully loaded, I started out, but forgot to retighten the sway bar. Down the road a few miles, was passed rapidly by a semi. The results were almost a disaster. Only regained control by gunning the engine to yank the trailer back in line. Lesson learned, loud and clear. To me, you should always have at least an anti-sway device when pulling ANY TT, even the light ones. JMHO

One of the best things about "landlubber" camping is that you don't ever have to worry about dragging your anchor!
