New Jayco Owner

Hi All,

Came across this forum while search for info on TT's and all the questions that come with being a new owner. My wife and booked a few reservations this morning in NYS.

We have our walk-through / demo for our 23rlsw this coming Friday.

I have some noob questions, but i have a bit of reading to do first.

CONGRATULATIONS on the JAYCO!!!

...and WELCOME TO JOF!!! The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

GREAT IDEA... backyard camping.. no better place to get started. Getting a spot in the Keys will take some planning, as they fill up 11 months in advance at the State Campgrounds..

Don

Welcome and congrats!!!

Make sure everything works before you leave with the new tt!!! Verify the tires are aired to max sidewall pressure.

Not sure what your tv (tow vehicle) is, but make sure you get a good wdh (weight distribution hitch) with integrated swag control. Makes it a little easier when arriving at the cg. The side punted sway control bars usually suggest to unhook the sway bar before backing up. The Reese DualmCam, Reese SC, and the Equal-I-Zer 4 way systems are all very good for the money! The DC is a little more finicky in setting up and needs re-adjusting if the tw (tongue weight) changes a fair amount- if fresh water tank is in from of axles: full vs empty. The SC and 4 way system are very similar. The Reese hitch head (same for both models) does allow a little more fine adjustment vs the Equal-I-Zer hitch head. But you can't go wrong with any of them!!!

Make sure you get the correct rated wd bars. Do not go by the "brochure" dry tongue/hitch weight. That weight does not include the propane tank(s) or a battery!!! Those alone will add ~120 (2-20lb tanks and battery) or ~160lbs (2-30lb tanks and battery) to the "brochure" tw. Plus anything you add to the trailer in front of the axles will add to the tw as well (pending how much is loaded behind the axles). You will want 12-15% of the total loaded trailer weight for tw stable tow.

Even though the dealer will set up the wdh (for an empty trailer), you will probably need to re-adjust it once you load the trailer up.

Follow the links in my signature for a ton of reading regarding the wdh. Make sure you get all the wdh paperwork also....

Driveway camping helps make sure you have everything you may need for a trip if this is your first rig (also cheaper! Lol). Take paper and a pen/pencil to make a list of things you find you need to get while camping.

Good luck!!!
