Hello, Wayne & Janis here. We are newly retired and have a new Greyhawk 31DS.
This is how new we are to this. We have never camped together in the 30 odd years we have been married.
This is a new direction for us and we are looking forward to some warmer weather to start our newest adventure.
Is there a forum for Security concerns? I am not seeing one.
So let me start out by saying our Greyhawk was broken into in the storage lot where we keep it. We lost a television from the bedroom. There were 8 other RVs in the lot that were hit at the same time. We lost a TV we had yet to turn on from an RV we have yet to take a trip in. We are not disheartened. We were lucky in that there was no other damage. These particular chuckle heads were very neat once inside. Some of the RV's had the entry doors folded up from the bottom. On ours, the door opened right up with a sharp tug on the handle. It was locked but the dead bolt was not set. This leads me to my question: What is the solution to locking this door that is not much more than an inch an a half or so of fiberglass and foam? A Stronger lock does not seem to be the answer if the door can just be folded from the bottom.
Thanks,
Wayne

Welcome and congratulations on your retirement and the new Greyhawk. Sorry to hear you've already had it broken into though. We too are new to camping and I'll be watching this post with interest to see what other folks thoughts are about security.

Welcome to site
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
Honestly locks only keep honest people honest. If the door would not open they would have broke the window...
You could think about an alarm system...
Enjoy retirement

Welcome to JOF and congrats on your retirement and the new TT! Sorry to hear about the break-in. Sounds like it could have been much worse!

Thanks for the comments. I have a friend that says you really don't own something until you alter it. I am going to think on how to reinforce or make the door more rigid. I will send pictures when I figure it out.

Not that it's everyone's solution, but I keep my 31SS Greyhawk inside a locked steel building, that is inside a chain link fence with a locked gate when it's not in use. The only time it really is outdoors is when I'm in it.

Welcome to the Jayco forum. Sorry to hear about your break-in. We are able to keep our fifth wheel on the driveway beside our garage. We have been fortunate that we have not ever had a break-in even though there is an alley that runs right beside our camper. We also live in a very small rural community, so our crime rate is very low. That doesn't mean that it can't, or won't, happen sometime in the future. Hope you were able to get everything repaired and replaced. Enjoy your retirement.

Welcome to the wonderful world of RVing!! Sorry to hear of the break in. Our security is always our Rottweiler Jozi and I never go anywhere without my Glock on me.

Congratulations on your new RV. I'm sorry to hear about your break in. We are fortunate enough to have the room to keep ours next to the garage. We will occasionally even use it as a guest quarters. My experience in our 17+ years of RVing is that I've never heard of anyone getting broke into while out camping. I'm sure it must happen, I've just never personally experienced or heard of anyone having a break in while camping. Your friends comment is very true. We've made so many mods to our current TT I would have a difficult time trading her in a new unit. She is our home away from home and we thoroughly enjoy camping, as a couple and as a family. Welcome to RVing, I hope you find it as enjoyable as so many of us on this forum!
