New Member from Knoxville Tennessee
Just wanted to say hi. My wife and I purchased our first TT about a year and a half ago. We decided on a 2012 JayFlight 22FB and it is just about perfect for us. We have had it out about 8 times. Brought it home from the dealer with a 97 Chevy Astro which I quickly traded for a 96 Chevy Tahoe 4X4. Much less white-knuckle time
Looking forward to using the rig more in 2014 as we are both retired Maybe even getting out of East Tennessee.

Thanks Tom,
I agree - I've found some things I want to do before spring. Since being on here I've had more of an urge to get out on the road.

I wish I lived closer to the Smoky Mtns like you... We try to visit ELKMONT CAMP inside the Natl Park as often as we can...
Maybe we will run into you there sometime... I will be the one with 9x12 tarps over my tent bed ends...
Welcome aboard...

Thanks guys!
@RoyBraddy I grew up in Denbigh Virginia so I'm a little bit familiar with your area. We usually camp at the State Parks but did venture out to a TVA campground on Douglas Lake this year.
Hope to get a little further out but it is hard (IMHO) to beat the Tennessee Mountains in the spring.

NewCamper - I kinda know where Denbigh Virginia is. We are not originally from here - been here since 75... Like everyone else we worked for Civil Service at Dahlgren until retired a few years back....
We do head down 17 on the way to Virginia Beach... I really prefer to go the other direction from here and do the Natl Forest back trails on the VA/WVA wooded mtn state line... One of my favorite areas there is near a place called FLAGPOLE RIDGE...
Got my OFF-ROAD POPUP setup for long runs off the batteries. Can stay up in the mtns for a pretty good stretch. We just seem to get more fun out of living more off our own resources so to speak...
I'm always making changes and adding things so get to go to Westmoreland State Park which is close by to make some test runs... Then if something blows up I can come back home in 30-40 minutes and fix it haha...

Hi Roy,
Denbigh is at the upper end of Newport News on the way to Williamsburg. Although I was born in Knoxville TN my Dad drug us away to the Tidewater area and that's where I stayed until I graduated HS in 71. Then came back to Knoxville where I lived on and off until early 90's when it became my permanent home.
Went back to Tidewater in the early 80's and found too many people for me. Haven't been back since. Wife and I bought our TT in August of 2012 and have only had it out about a dozen times. Since we are now both retired ( a little early @61) we hope to spend more spring, summer and fall in the TT. Little by little, we have expanded our CG area but have not been over 100 miles from home. There are still so many areas in this part of the country that we haven't explored, it may take us a while to even get out of state
Maybe we will get to camp together some time and get to know one another for real. Until then be safe
Gary

Gary - I tell you what - The 75 road between Knoxville and Chattanooga is loaded down with camp sites. Every exit has signs up for two or three or more camp grounds. We have been to a few of them especially those situated around the Lakes and Rivers... Those camp grounds upon on the lookout mtn on the 59 road south of Chattanooga are a couple of our most favorite CGs being Cloudland Canyon at the Trenton GA exit and DESOTO at the FT PAYNE Exit in ALA.
We have stayed alot in the camp grounds all over the high country of VA-NC-TN-SC-GA-AL... Love the NATL FOREST sites back on a country stream somewhere...
At one time I was going to follow my ancestors footprints of following the TN RIVER to Southern IL and MO...
If you don't go real big on your RV trailer you can do very nicely getting off the beaten paths... My OFF-ROAD POPUP sits up good with its 15-inch off-road tires on it. It will go anywhere my 4WD truck will go and has all the modern appliances to go with it.

Oh, and BTW Roy, that's a good looking pop-up, looks like it has plenty of ground clearance for those off-road trips

GARY - When you do your reservations for Cloudland Canyon ask for the WEST RIM section. ALot of those sites have the patio deck fence around them - Pretty neat... Like in this photo
Good trails there on both sides of the canyon. I like just going to edge of the canyon where the big rocks are and lay out and watch people on the other side of the canyon hehe... Thats a long walk down to the water falls... Worth the trip however...
The DESOTO State park just south of there about 35 miles has a hugh canyon. Lots of good views of it up on the high rocks around it... You need to check that one out as well... I don't know if DESOTO still does but on Friday nights the LODGE close to the park has a big fish fry... HMMMM GOOOOD !!!!... We haven't been to DESOTO since they closed their site for almost a year a few years back and did alot of upgrades on the sites including 50AMP service... It was nice before so must be really nice now... There are several real good camp grounds on down the 59 road in North ALA if you get back in the mtns.
