Just picked up our 2013 Whitehawk last week and stumbled into your forum. I've been a member of the Chevy Avalanche Fan Club for ten years and find the forums a great informational resource as well as a place to get and give info and just exchange stories. This is our third camper but our first new one and first Jayco.

In your experience how has the Avalanche been as a TV for you? What have you previously towed weight-wise compared to your 28DSBH? We pick up our new 27DSRL upgrading from a PU.

This is my second Avalanche. My 03' went 138,000 miles. With the 08' we were previously towing a Palomino Stampede that weighed 4400 lbs dry. It was a bear to load and difficult to balance but the Avalanche never had an issue with it. We took it up to New Hampshire for a Nascar race and didn't have any problems. I was towing with a 3.73 rear end. I had the gears changed this week to 4.10's which should make towing easier. Bringing the Whitehawk home we still had the 3.73 gears and no issues. I see people complain all the time about what their trucks can do but there's a big difference between gas and diesel. The Avalanche has been one of my favorite trucks. It does everything and rides great so for me changing the gears was the way to go since I have no interest in replacing the Avalanche anytime soon.

Welcome from another Islander! We went out to Wildwood last weekend and spend the majority of our time at Smith Point. How about you?

We spend Memorial Day weekend, 1 week in the summer and Columbus day weekend at Hither Hillls in Montauk. It's dry camping but I love to fish and the family loves the campground, beach and town. Been going there since we had a tent and the kids were little. Also heading to Rhode Island this year. We'll try to get a few weekends in at Smithpoint or Wildwood.
