Hi! My name is Steve and I'm addicted to camping!

Allow me to introduce myself. My longtime (17 years) girlfriend and I really enjoy getting away from it all. We have been camping for many, many years and like many, started off with a tent for a while before upgrading to an RV. We used to be avid hikers, but the RV lifestyle has made us soft.

Although we still manage to get one or two hikes each summer.

When we aren't camping with the RV, we are usually found at our cabin in the Tug Hill plateau, which is more remote than any campground we've been to so far. When I say we like to get away, we like to really get away!! On a typical summer we are at camp or out camping every weekend from May-October, right up until the campgrounds close.

We're not new to camping, but certainly new to Jayco. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we're taking delivery on our first Jayco, and our first ever 5th wheel. It' safe to say that we both are very excited about our new trailer. It's a Eagle HT series, 30.5 MLOK. The GF absolutely fell in love with the kitchen which made it a done deal.

I'm sure I'll ask many questions as we acclimate to our new RV. But in the meantime, thank you for accepting me into the group! I look forward to participating as time goes on. And if you're camping in the Catskills, you never know, you may see us at one of our favorite campgrounds, Country Roads in Gilboa!

Fond memories of my Father in Law insisting he was going to work because he always goes to work.. Never mind it had snowed 69 inches in the Salt City...

Hey Steve welcome! We are neighbors! I grew up in Syracuse and now live in Cicero. I retired from the Syracuse Fire Dept. after 30 years. We too love camping and spend most of the summer on property we own on Cross Lake. We still do 4 or 5 camping trips each summer and fall. We are leaving for Maine on Saturday. Still waiting fir wife to retire ( 1 more year) then we will become snowbirds. Enjoy your new Jayco and safe travels!

Thank you all for the very warm welcome!

We took delivery on our new Eagle HT 20.5MLOK yesterday. Delivery was great! The walkthrough took about an hour, which was refreshingly quick and to the point. It was was also due to in part to visiting the dealer last week for PDI.

The biggest challenge of the day was getting the new 5'er in the driveway. I've never had an issue backing into a campsite, only the driveway. We live in the city, the driveway is long and narrow; 9 feet wide, with a 10 foot curb cut in the granite, and a 16" rise from the steet at the apron. There's about 3 feet of grass between the driveway and the neighbors house, and about 4 feet to mine. Unfortunately we live on a busy, one way street, so blind-side backing is a must. I had only recently mastered backing in our old 31 foot TT, so I knew this was going to be a challenge. We spent a half hour at a local shopping mall doing practice runs which paid off as I landed it in the driveway first try, although I did back it over a few feet of the neighbors lawn. When backing, steering the trailer is remarkably easy, it's judging distances that I still fight with. It's a learning experience...

We got it parked then took a break for dinner. Went back out to look at our new toy after dinner and it set in just how massive in size it is, compared to the old TT. First order of business was to scan for TV channels. We've got a lot of "moving in" to do, so some entertainment was a must. I also turned on the AC to cool the place. After about 15 minutes the trailer lost shore power. I looked out the windows and saw the garage lights were on so we didn't lose utility power. After checking breakers multiple times I broke out the multimeter and discovered an open neutral. I had a 30 amp TT receptable installed this spring, so suspecting that I used a 20a adapter and unsuccessfully tried the garage outlet. Still nothing. I had a spare Furrion power cable which I tried unsuccessfully as well. That left only one thing, the Furrion power port. I pulled that off and saw that the white (neutral) wire was not securely clamped. Tightened that, and check the other screws, then reattached everything. Power restored.

By that time it was getting too late to do anything else so we called it a night. =

Our snow down here is nothing like Adams, or Highmarket where our camp is located. As much as people complain about snow and cold around here, at least we don't have earthquakes, wildfires, major tornados, or hurricanes to deal with.

Haha. I guarantee I can find you a diner which serves grits. If you ever get up to the Adirondack mountains, there's a place specializing in cajun BBQ called Delta Blue. My girlfriend always gets their Shrimp & Grits, and a stop is mandatory everytime we camp up in the area.

I have many fond memories of Cross lake as a kid. I grew up in a large family of 9 aunts and uncles and many cousins. Every summer back in the 70's and early 80's the entire family would camp together, taking over as many as 8-9 sites. Cross lake, Bowman Lake, and Morgan Hill were frequent destinations. With at dozen or more kids at each outing, we probably drove the entire campground nuts. It's for that reason, despite not having any children, I am not bothered by kids playing at a campground, no matter how loud they may be.
