New RV'r from Central Florida

Hello all,

I am a soon to be nearly retired RN from Central Florida.

Over the past 12-13 years I have been fortunate enough to ride my motorcycle through 44 of the lower 48 states, Alaska, and 8 Canadian Provinces, often camping along the way.

Because of a bad back, my wife (DW I guess from here forward), has been unable to accompany me since 2012. Through my travels, every time I saw an RV going the opposite direction, I would imagine how much fun it would be to have an RV and travel North America with my wife (and grandkids, of course).

This past summer, after a motorcycle to trip to Newfoundland-Labrador and Nova Scotia, I decided it was time to stop dreaming and start looking.

The result,
we are now the proud owners of a new-to-us 2017 Jayco 29XK!

The previous owner knew next to nothing about the rig, so I have already made great use of this forum for information such as; how to bypass the hot water heater for sanitizing the FW tank, locating the inverter, and much more. Many thanks already!

BTW, it turned out the GFCI on the inverter was tripped, so that was an easy fix. AND, my inverter just happens to power the TV, AND the TV outlet in the bedroom, an unexpected bonus. From what I understand, on most Jayco coaches, the inverter powers the forward TV and nothing else.

We have our first trip planned to Blue Springs State Park December 12th and 13th, about 8 miles from our house. From what I've heard, it pays to not be too ambitious on the first departure from your own driveway.

And, thanks in a large part to this forum, I can say that "all systems are go" as far as the rig is concerned.

Thanks again, Merry Christmas, and Happy Travels!

And just to clarify my own post, we purchased a Jayco Redhawk 29XK. I previously posted just Jayco 29XK.

Thanks everyone for the kind words of welcome.

I actually slept in the coach last night in the backyard. I had her plugged into the house electric with a 30 to 15 amp adapter. Temps "plunged" to around 40 degrees last night here in Central Florida so I used a small space heater set on 60 (I like sleeping cool) and had to throw the covers off many times.

When I got up I used the on-board propane furnace to bring the temp up to 68 in short order, at which time I felt like a piece of toast. At the same time I boiled some water on the stove to make some instant coffee. Then I switched the water heater on, and a few minutes later I enjoyed my first shower in the rig.

In short, I'm making sure all systems are go, and that I know how to use them, prior to our first outing in 12 days, and counting!

There are a couple campgrounds close by. Bill Fredrick Park have some full hooky. And Miss Park with no sewer. We love both and are very reasonably priced

Welcome from SoCal. It's great that you can now travel with your DW. We bought our RV, so we can travel with our dog. LOL

Thanks for the heads up on Bill Frederick Park. I remember when it was just called Turkey Lake Park, but I had forgotten all about it. I camped there once with my son, must have been 30 years ago. Probably a lot quieter there then. Where is Miss Park?

Never mind, you we're probably talking about Moss Park. I used to go there a lot back in the 70s but never camped there. Now that I got the RV I'll have to check it out. Thanks again.
