New to the forum, not new to 5th wheels

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd tell my story as a way to introduce myself. I started with "campers" when I was just a kid. My Dad used to build his own pickup bed campers in our garage. He eventually got so good at it that people would circle our rig at camp grounds with strange looks on their face and finally ask "what brand camper is that". Anyway, before I was married, I was happy to pull my old boat behind my old, but capable International Scout II with the back end loaded with my gear.

When I eventually got married, my wife came from a family that had "cabins". That didn't fit my nomadic outdoors lifestyle so we bought an at the time 20 year old Skamper 5th wheel. We didn't even own a pickup! Anyway a couple years later, we bought a new Skyline Nomad with a super slide. Boy oh boy we were playing in the tall cotton now! Anyway, it soon occurred to me that I live in Kansas well renown for thunderstorms and I owned a metal sided trailer. We traded the Nomad for a Damon Challenger with a bedroom slide too - whew hoo! Of course you never say never and not all that long after - we were the proud new owners of a King of the Road triple glide.

We were actually very happy with the King, but as it aged and the company folded, its parts prices increased and availability decreased. So a couple years ago we traded for a Pinnacle 34RLTS. I'll post a picture of our rig for your entertainment. We like to go to the lake, fish, play in the water and then relax in the coach at the end of the day. I have one question for forum members if they'd care to reply and that is; how do you cope when long time RVing friends sell their coaches and follow other pursuits. It has become a problem for us anyway...

Welcome to the Jayco Forum, lots of great information and members.

We had the same situation with long time friends selling their RV and going a different direction, it was tough since we did not get to see them as much on the weekends and activities but we survived.
I am not sure if there is a good answer, we still saw our friends and did activates with them, just not as often.

Of course now that we fulltime and travel across the country, we do not see Family and Friends as often as we used to, we have moved in a completely different direction with our lives.

Of course most of our Family and Friends think we are NUTS, but we are having the time of our life and seeing the country at the same time.

Welcome to the forum, What lakes do you go too, we are a boating family also. We live on Tuttle creek lake but go to Milford, council grove, Wilson, Melvern, perry, and big hill and are alway looking for boating friends. Our camping buddies sold out on us and bought a lake home at council grove city lake a few years ago so we end up always inviting people to come stay with us that don't have campers or boats

Welcome! We have the opposite problem...None of our friends, and even most family, do not camp and think we are going through some strange phase. We invite them along to see all the beautiful and fun places, but no one accepts. So we go and enjoy our own company. But it would be nice to share the experience sometimes. Hope you find a new and fun circle of friends to travel with.

We had two other couples we went with often. One bought a weekend place @ Pomme De Terre in Missouri and the other sold their 5er, kept their boat but don't go out often. I've got family who have 5ers that we go with, we just miss the friends too. We live in rural Harvey county, but the picture was taken at Melvern, one of my favorite Kansas lakes along with Milford. We've been to all the lakes you mentioned. Sometimes we go to Kanopolis, or Marion closer to home, although I prefer east/west lakes.

I see from your avatar one place we go to occasionally that might make you cringe is Clinton. We stay there to watch a ball game, visit our daughter who lives in Lenexa (she's a Wildcat), or make a trip to KC. I grew up loving the Hawks, but graduated a Shocker.

We have a Bryant Boat with a wakeboard tower, it's named Lil Bryant on the back. You normally can't miss us if we're cruising around with the captains call exhaust on,it has a nice rumble to it.

We stayed at Clinton a few years ago at 4th of July and watched the fire work show from the boat. It was a nice lake also.

Maybe we'll see ya' on the water? I'll be in the blue over white 21' Triton Fish n Ski probably fishin'.

We've gone to fireworks when we've visited my brother that has a cabin on Table Rock near the bridge at Shell Knob, The Island @ Pomme De Terre, but the wildest I ever saw was at Milford dam when the surrounding grass caught fire and the fire department had to put it out. We love watching fireworks from the boat, but the ride home can get a little dicey sometimes...

We could handle living on table rock lake full time. We will be in shell knob camping at the COE park June 22-27, we could run into you down there also.
