New to the Trailer Life

We just bought our first TT and ended up going with a Jay Feather 25BH about a month ago and took it out once. Boy, is there a learning curve for someone that has never been around one, learning as we go though. Recently found out that we really need a solar kit to keep batteries charged while in storage. Figuring out what is needed for that. Super excited for the camping memories in the future with the family.

Welcome from the Evergreen ($$$) State!

You might just disconnect the battery when your rig is in storage or add a kill switch.

Welcome!!

I always just took my battery off and kept it in the garage on a tender. That also eliminated the possibility of it growing legs and deciding to wander off.

Congrats on your Jay Feather 25BH! Don't feel bad, we're searching for our 5th camper and I'm still learning stuff.

Welcome on JOF and enjoy your camping trips. If you have 2 batteries group 27 use at least a 30 watt solar panel. If you have lots of cloudy days double the watts.

Welcome to the forum from Midway USA.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I disconnect the battery every time I put the camper in the storage shed. Over the winter, it sat for five months. When we took it out for the first time, I was fully expecting to have to crank the tongue jack by hand, but I hooked the battery up and it worked like a champ.

I agree with Camper Bob. When I had my TT, I had an extra battery box so I could disconnect and take the battery home when leaving in storage. I would put the empty box on the tongue to tuck the cables in and the connector for the electric tongue jack to keep them out of the weather. The FALL before I traded our TT, someone "good for nothing" came through the storage lot and stole every battery that was accessible. Taking the battery home with you is a hassle until someone steals it!
