New to TTrailers
Hi all,
I am active duty military and me and the family recently rented a pop up Jayco and went camping and I guess my wife caught the bug because we are looking at campers now...
Married with 2 kids. 10 and 3.
Looking forward to learning here because I'm a camping newbie
Thanks

Thank you for your service. Enjoy shopping for campers. Take your time, the choices available today are incredible. I'm pretty sure RV shows have already started . Try to attend , plan on spending at least a full half day in taking it all in. Don't limit yourself to only what you THINK you like. Look at units perhaps a bit more than what you're interested in to get ideas.
Welcome and enjoy!

Welcome to JOF and thank you for your service! Take your time looking at the different models considering your future growth needs. Not sure what type of tow vehicle you have but it is imperative that you match the camper to the tow vehicle or the tow vehicle to the camper. Have fun shopping! Many great memories lie ahead.

Thanks for everyones thanks. My pleasure to serve.
My TV is a 2015 F 150 2.7 ecoboost.
I have been looking at TT's around 4500 dry. Which I guess would be around 5500 full. If I am understanding ford correctly I can tow 7600 lbs but I don't want to be close to that if I can help it.
From what I have read even the 2.7 eco can tow pretty well. Especially for a V6

Our kids loved camping at that age.
We involved them with setup and tear down. They loved helping expecially when they knew it sped up fun time.

welcome and Thanks for your service....
look at the payload ... you, wife, kids, animals, food, toys etc... then you need to know what you put in the back of the truck too.. bikes, chairs, etc... then the tongue weight with propane and batteries... it is the axel and the gear ratio that gets you your payload... you can have maximum mileage or you can have towing capacity but you can't have both...
make sure if you get close to the capacity it has the towing package...

I was in the same boat as you several years ago. I rented pop up campers from a Marine Corps MRW facility regularly. Those campers were a bit worn but for less than $75 a weekend, it was a great deal. We got caught in a hard thunderstorm in a pop up and that convinced me to start looking at travel trailers....the sound of that storm was deafening in that small camper.
Anyway, watch your payload limits with the F150 but you are on the right track. A buddy of mine hauled a 26BH all over the US with his Ecoboost F150 and had no issues.

WELCOME TO JOF!!!
The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!
Thanks for your service from an ex Army guy!!! Here is a Ford chart for your year and engine, just add your axle ratio and it should get you into the ballpark.

In that weight range, we LOVED our Jayco x213. It fits the bill with 2 kids and it weighs 5200lbs fully loaded.
Just a suggestion!

Might be a stupid question but How much does having a tow package actually matter?
Although my 2015 F150 2.7 eco has a hitch and trailer hookups I don't remember it having a tow package. I cant find the sticker, is there another way to tell?
Also, its not a 4x4. Does that matter?
I know, why buy a truck that's got a V6, isn't 4X4 and no tow package...
Who knows, wife bought it brand new and we had no intentions of towing anything. Now that has changed.

It also has a Tow mode button and a setting that you can use to supposedly help sway control.
Not sure if that is considered a tow package or not.
