Newbie from Austin - Hummingbird

Hi everyone,

My name is Rich and after a decade thinking about getting a travel trailer, I finally pulled the trigger last weekend by purchasing a Hummingbird 17RB. I am towing with a 2004 Toyota 4Runner V8 with 195,000 miles. A little unsettling, I admit, but in the short drive home from the dealer, the 4runner handled everything well. I did get a Fastway E2 Trunnion weight distributing hitch. Before that, the 4runner looked pretty unstable. Afterwards, nice and even. (The picture is from before the hitch was installed.)

We spent a night at the dealer's campsite getting settled in but were way too exhausted to really appreciate it. Headed out on our first trip next week!

I am very excited to have found this website. I am sure I will have many questions.

Rich

Welcome, We have a 17RK and have put quite a few miles on it. We have done one snowbird and a Nova Scotia trip. A very good little unit.

There is also a Hummingbird Facebook page that you might find helpful.

Welcome from Oregon. Have fun with your new purchase. My suggestion is to camp in your drive way for a night and make a list of what you go to the house to get so you can take it with you when you go out in the woods. After three camp trailers we have lots of the same stuff in the trailer as we have in the house so we have less to load that way. We are now working on clothes to keep in the trailer all the time.
