Cool Not owners yet.

The pack of Greyhounds are a semi-retired couple anxious to get on with the rest of our lives. We live in Las Vegas and have lost whatever fondness we ever had for living in an oven.

To that end, we're looking to set ourselves up in the last place we will ever live and to buy the last stuff we will ever need, as much as that is possible. We are planning to take off later this summer and tour several states looking at land to finally settle into. I suppose it is relevant to point out here that, in my former career, I have lived in every region of the nation and worked in every state except North Dakota and Alaska, so I'm no stranger to traveling. I also spent a year in my 20s just driving wherever the mood took me and stopping wherever I liked for as long as I liked and learned just how diverse this nation really is.

We have discussed the possibility of doing the whole road-trip-in-comfort thing many times and have stumbled upon an opportunity to acquire what we think might be a good deal on what appears to be a set up that someone else has already put together. So, we found this forum and thought this would be a great collection of experience to help better inform us about taking this not inconsequential step.

The (potential) Jayco + TV set-up:
A 2003 Designer 32RLTS that appears (so far, we're still very early in the process) to be not too badly abused, although the current owner(s) seem to be less than expert at handling large vehicles.
A 2004 Chevy 3500 RWD dualie powered and pushed by the 6.6L diesel/Allison auto combination. It has the 5th wheel tailgate and what I'm guessing is an extra ~40gal fuel tank in the bed.

We're settled on a rural lifestyle, so the 1-ton truck is nearly perfect (I've always preferred Ford to GM) for our purposes even after we find our perfect place. However, neither of us has any experience with trailer homes, but do know people that have giant RVs. Even after finding our place, the Jayco may well serve as our residence while the house is being built.

Our initial research indicates that Jayco is second only to Airstream for quality and durability, but without the ridiculously inflated cost.

I think that's about it for this intro, if anyone has any questions or comments, that's why I'm here. Who knows? Mrs. Greyhound might even make an appearance at some point.
