Possible future Jayco owner

Hey all, been looking at possibly trading our Forest River Wildcat Maxx for a Jayco, so thought I would join the forum to find out the pros and cons.

Yes, I am looking for any used 5th wheel under 10k GVWR. The Jaycos seem really packed with features, great looking and have super light GVWR. I have my eye on a '17 Eagle 28.5RSTS, also an '18 24.5CKTS although not crazy about not being able to get into the bathroom and bedroom with the slide closed on that one.

We currently have a 2016 Forest River Wildcat Maxx 262RGX that we love, but found out this state (Nevada) has a 10K GVWR towing limit with a Class C license, and it is at 11,800.

The Nevada "J" license endorsement is a major pain in the rear to get. Since we don't plan on going any larger, decided to sell it and get another brand that's about the same size but lower GVWR.

Welcome to the forum!! If your looking at Jayco and at that GVWR you are in the Eagle HT line. But even in that line your selection will be limited. There are a few other lines in older years, I think they called them HT Lite.

Thanks and yes it is the Eagle HT line I have been looking at. Not doing it because of lack of truck as I have a '16 Ram 2500 Cummins. But because of that lame license restriction I recently found out about. We plan on moving to the southeast, possibly southern Alabama and do not want to be in other states unlicensed to tow our current Wildcat. Probably shouldn't worry about it, but I do.

Isn’t licensure governed by the state of residence? My actual CGVW is under 25k but my sticker is well over that and Florida was totally cool with it without a CDL. My mailing address is in TX (we are Escapees members) which would arguably require a CDL, but we “live” in FL (that’s what on the divers licenses and vehicle registration).

Yes it is, they go by whatever state your license came from. That is why I don't want to tow in other states with a trailer over 10k GVWR as states on the back of my license "may tow < 10,000". But it's a moot point now as we got the '17 28.5RSTS, which is rated at 9950.
