Soon to be new 195rb baja owner, first TT

so the wife and I decided now that the kids are grown up we want to do a little traveling out and about in comfort since we have tented every year for a little while now.

So we are about to purchase a 2017 jayco 195rb baja and my TV is a 2000 toyota tacoma 3.4l v6 auto prerunner ( hope it will do ok pulling it)...

the price the dealer quoted me is 12900 for the trailer and that's not out the door just the price of the trailer.... is this bad?? total out the door for the trailer a honda 2000 generator and a e2 wdh is $16200....

i go in on Wed. morning to go sign paperwork and want to make sure all is good. seems like a fair deal but according to what i have been reading its only like 24% off msrp and does not seem that good but other dealers around here sell them for like $14900-15200 from what i have called around for..

i drive a semi for a living. this is my first ever TT and am a little worried that the sway might be possibly bad with a single axle and my tv being so light.. camping world is selling me a 8k wdh and im thinking its way over kill but have no clue as i have never had to use one befor...

only other thing that i am considering but wife isn't is getting rid of the toilet and getting a composting one instead to make it cheaper and easier to take care for long weeks out... also wondering if the honda 2000 is going to be enough to charge batteries and also run the lights and the a/c and fridge np at all....

Sry for the long post but being new to this i have a lot of questions and been reading a lot of great info on here and that helps....

guess i better get back to reading more posts to find out some answers as wed is coming dang fast for me and still alot to answer lol have a great day and stay shiny side up

We run our 195 with a Honda Ridgeline same size engine. Our first trip was to AZ and NM and did mountains..lots of mountains. Engine geared to haul load up mountains without effort but with headwinds on the Great Plains it ran higher RPMS and shifted in and out of top gear.
We got the Sway Command installed( the prep is already done) and a brake controller for mountains. No separate sway bar. Thanks to some boneheaded moves by other drivers and high cross winds on the Great Plains and the desert we know they both work.

No WDH. Decided we did not need it. Our steering control is still excellent ( our first tow was...in the snow too to get it home, not intentionally planned and fortunately only 17 miles but up over big hills. We carry in the storage compartment some chairs and a folding bike.Thats all Coming from a tenting background we find the TT has way too much storage potential.

Can you go solar enough to power the A/C? Solar isn't an option for us camping in the woods. Your woods are more open.

Composting toilet needs a fan.... electrical work. We had a camp that had one and getting it tweaked to actually work without odors was a project.

8K is overkill. The lowest e2 makes is a 4500# trunnion, that's the one I'd ask for.

I'm not sure if you'll need WDH and/or sway control. Does your TV manual recommend a WDH above a certain weight?

If you do want sway control, consider the Equal-i-zer brand; sometimes mistaking called e4. Both are made by Progress Manufacturing, they look the same. But

You may won't to consider other brands of WDH+sway control. I'm happy with my Blue Ox and the nice thing about it is that I can change the weight bars without having to buy a new head.

2K genny isn't usually enough to start a 13.5K BTU A/C.

The -195 has an 8000 btu through the wall a/c
Not a 13500.
The 8000 is an icebox in that size TT
We tried today it does start
To complete the Sway Command install was 300
8000? I would go elsewhere Someone is trying to gouge you on aftermarket

I would agree that the 8k wdh is overhill. The GVWR on the 195RB Baja is 3750. You want your tongue weight to be about 12-15% of the loaded trailer weight so your tongue weight will likely be around 400lbs. Too light on the tongue can cause sway problems. My 195RB Baja fully loaded is running 425lbs of tongue weight. I use an Andersen No-Sway WDH mainly for the sway control which works extremely well. I would consider this an excellent choice for smaller units like the 195RB. It's much lighter than a traditional wdh (60lbs vs ~100lbs), very simple to hook up and very quiet. We've towed about 7000 miles with this hitch in all manner of weather and it's been very stable. You can check it out here --> Andersen 'No-Sway' Weight Distribution Hitch

Regarding the "Sway Control" that Jayco offers - as I recall only the "prep" for that is standard. You'll have to select it as an additional option in order to get the control unit.

As charles_cincy said, if you have a 13.5K A/C a 2000watt generator probably isn't going to start that. Our unit has the 8K wall-mounted A/C and we are able to run that with our Champion 2000watt generator.

We're on the road again. 11900 miles so far this year
We did not do a WDH because Honda said not to. . We tried it without and so far so good . Of course your truck may differ

I tow with the same truck manual tranny and mine is a 154 Baja. I couldn't imagine pulling any more weight does yours pull ok?

I don't know yet I'll let you know on Wednesday next week..do you have the v6?? I know on flat land I can accelerate np at all just don't know about hills yet. Also if you mean suspension wise mines all after market...

Ya I have the 3.4 V6 but with a manual transmission. The flats aren't so bad I cruise 60mph. But the hills are another story :/ I live in the mountains though too so makes it harder. I also have upgraded suspension and air bags in the rear on my 04 taco. Let me know how you think she does!

Just a quick question for ya, in 2004 had the ability to tow 3500-5000lbs, did your come with. Factory tow package????? If not.your probably only rated for 3500lbs..just a thought is all..mine is a prerunner not 4x4 and it's rated at 5k and has 4.11 gears in rear....
