Thanks for the welcome... capacitor question?

Thanks Jayco Forum for having me. Looking forward to reviewing all of the great information I have found so far. Perhaps I can ask a question as I have gotten lost in the vast number of thoughts on AC capacitors and replacement. I have a 2007 26BH with AC model number 8333E7564. It has a fan capacitor 1499-546 (brown /brown and white wire) and cylindrical capacitor 1499-573 with a yellow, white and red wire attached. The a/c had been running like a champ but on a recent outing it would not kick on (only the fan would run). The fan runs fine but the compressor wont seem to kick on. This has been on 30 amp service at the RV park and when I hooked up to my 5600 watt genny it wont kick on either. I find when the compressor wants to kick on the fan slows but no compressor sounds (this is even with all breakers turned off except the a/c breaker). The genny can run the units fan, microwave and all of the units lights which should be a higher amp draw than when I am trying to run only the a/c. It would appear in my understanding the capacitor(s) are bad and need to be replaced but I am trying to identify if I go with the original part or what I have read as the hard start capacitor... and if so what one(s). At home the a/c wont run (even when it had been working fine) when plugged into a 15 amp outlet so if a hard start capacitor would help fix this that would be great (provided it does not do any harm to the unit). Thanks in advance for your help.

Cylindrical capacitor specs: 45uf +- 6% (H) 370VAC/B 50/60hz -40degree C/ 70C

Oval capacitor: 7.5uf +-6% (H) 370VAC/B.... same as above

Could be a faulty capacitor. You can test it to see.
Disconnect power to the ac, then use a screw driver to short across two of the capacitor terminals to make sure it is discharged.
Take a picture of the wire connections or make note of them.
Disconnect the wires and attach an ohm meter across them in various combinations. You should get at least some resistance across each node. If there is nothing, it most likely is bad. Examine the physical appearance, bulging or distortion of the case is a clue it is shot.

Another way we were taught to test them is to put a vom meter set for dc voltage, across the terminals after discharging. Remove them and reverse the leads. You should see a momentary voltage spike on the meter as it discharges.

Try it on both and replace the one that does not do it. Many times the ends will bulge out when they go bad.

Be careful not to touch both leads with your bare hands, In school, we had to do that to remind us to never do it.
