TT all weather package

I have had 3 different brands of TT, travel and little in the summer, but around Sept. I go to the Hunting club and setup for 5 months, when season is over clear up and a few short vacations, question is ? is the winter pkg. worth the $$ and is the saving to build your own and go to the factory and
pick it up worth the $$, BIG difference in factory and dealer cost. Also at factory can observe how the are put together for future needs> any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am curious to find what others have to say on this. Our trailer has the winter package (glacier package), but my RV experience goes back to years prior to trailers being sold with the amenities they have today and with 'winter packages'. In my experience, I have always considered and utilize my RVs in four seasons. I look at any RV as a four season rig, because I have been out in tents in the middle of winter and a trailer or motorhome with four solid walls and a hard ceiling and bathroom kitchen etc., beats a tent in freezing conditions any day.
With that said, I long ago adopted certain practices for utilizing my RVs during the coldest of temperatures (usually for hunting seasons) and though I have had a few hiccups/mistakes along the way, I learned from every one.
So when DW and I picked up our current TT, both of us were surprised to find it had a 'Glacier' package (we were not aware this type of package existed). Nevertheless, we have not changed the lessons learned practices we adopted from past experience of using RVs during winter conditions. Therefore, we can't really say whether the winter package has been worth the cost or not.

What say others?

WELCOME TO JOF!!!

The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

We have the glacier package and it will keep your pluming from freezing IF you use the TT's main heating system. For those that do not use the TT's main heating system and use those little electric heaters inside the TT, your pipes will freeze. The other issue is how often the heat comes on as the time between heating may have an issue.

For the minimal cost of the glacier/thermal package, I think it's worth it. Extra insulation is a good thing. It helps keeps the heat it during spring/fall camping and helps keep it cooler in the summer.
