Vehicle for towing

Hi...I'm Julie and my husband Frank and I are relatively new to towing. We have just bought a 2011 Buick Enclave with a factory installed hitch and cooler. We will be having a brake control installed by the RV dealer. Will we have any issues towing our new Jayco 195RB which is @ 3500 lbs. and 20'8" long? It's all so new.

On paper looks like it will work. You'll need to watch the payload limit of the enclave. So while it is listed as being able to pulling 4500# it's the weight on the axles you have to watch.

There will be a sticker on the door that list GVWR - max weight that enclave can be. In addition it will list the max weights that can be on each axle.

Once you put people, gas, gear and trailer tongue weight on the vehicle it's not uncommon to go over one these limits well before you hit max towing capacity.

It's important to weight your vehicle and trailer a Cat scale. This will let you know if you need to shift gear from TV to TT or if you need to move stuff in the TT to adjust the tongue weight. Here's a good thread on weighing your setup http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...v-tt-3871.html

Welcome to the forum! You'll find lots of folks with great information here so don't hesitate to ask. We recently bought a 195RB Baja and have found it to be a great little trailer so I think you'll be happy with your choice.

As Filthy-Beast has indicated, understanding the various weight ratings and limitations is very important. In addition to the link provided on how to weigh your set up there are several other "sticky" postings at the top of the "Towing and Tow Vehicles" section that are worth taking a look at.

Good luck!
