What have we done?

Hi everyone, new member here. Long time campers, first time Jayco owners. I've spent some time on other RV-related forums, and after we ordered our new 2015 Jay Flight 24FBS, we can't wait for camping season to get here.

This is the third RV that we've owned. The first one was a fairly low-end pop-up that we were sort of suckered into buying by a slick salesman. I must accept some of the blame due to inexperience and not doing the proper research. After too much frustration and too many expensive repairs, we gave up on that and bought a Starcraft hybrid, which was a huge step up in comfort and convenience.

But even so, sleeping under canvas eventually loses its charm, and since none of us are getting younger, the time for even more comfort and convenience eventually comes around. We had decided that this would be the year for a new trailer, and since we already knew that Jayco was a top-of-the-line unit, most of our search was centered around that. We're towing with a half-ton, so that rules out 5th wheels, no kids so a bunkhouse model isn't for us, and we're not interested in an outdoor kitchen. It narrowed our choices, but there were still a few that made our short list.

We originally wanted a White Hawk 24RBS, but none of the dealers we spoke to had any in stock, but would order it for us. Due to the US dollar to Canadian dollar exchange rate, none of them were willing to budge on the price, which still put it a few thousand out of our comfort zone, price wise. A local RV dealer (if a 3 hour drive each way can be called local) was having a show and sale, so we made a day trip out of it and went out to see them. I had been emailing the salesman for a week prior, so he knew that we were making the drive solely for the show.

They had a Jay Flight 24FBS on display and we thought that it would be perfect for us -- plus, it was on sale and thousands cheaper than the White Hawk. They only had the display unit, which was already sold, but they could order one for us at the sale price. On top of that, they didn't insult us too badly on our trade, so it made all sorts of sense to us to sign on the dotted line. When the shock of what we had done set in, it was blunted quite a bit by knowing we got a deal that we were happy with.

Four to six weeks, they said. I'm kind of glad we're in the middle of a typical winter on the Canadian prairies, so we wouldn't be able to use the new trailer even if it was here. It still can't get here soon enough!

Thanks, everyone. Our trailer hasn't even been built yet and I'm already scouring the forums for possible mods. So far I want to put shelves in the bathroom wardrobe and either build or buy a small shelving unit to mount on the bathroom wall across from the toilet to store shampoo bottles, toilet paper, stuff like that.

Check the stuff in this forum. You can use the 'search' function and find lots of good reading material. If you are making a list of MODs, you'll probably find enough here to keep you busy for quite a while.

Congrats on your new purchase and welcome to the forum.
We just bought a 24fbs in August of last year. We really enjoy it. We had an Airstream 23' which we traveled a lot with it but found it just too small, 2ft ides I guess. As far as mods, the only one we have done so far is install a stove top cover. Plan on a sewer hose storage, Surge Protection ( a must) and a mattress topper, a battery lock, lp tank lock and compartment locks change. I'm sure there will be other mods latter. It's snowed in right now. Missouri weather! So we will wait on the weather to change while you wait on your second home to arrive.
Good Luck!

Congrats! We ordered our 29QBS at the end of January. Dealer told us 6 weeks too... not sure if I am quite as optimistic about taking delivery as he was. I hope to have it by the beginning of April, or 8 weeks.

Thanks. On our old hybrid with limited counter space, we found that a stove top cover really made a huge difference. I'll have to see if we need one on the 24FBS. What I did on the hybrid was to get some 3/4" pine shelving and cut it to shape, routed the edges so they looked nice, put some cleats on the bottom so it friction-fit into place on the stove grill, and clearcoated the whole thing. It worked pretty good.
