It has been adjusted in the past and this issue goes away for a while then returns. It appears there is more that one site administrator and they differ as to what they feel is an appropriate automatic log off time.
I have been caught several times making a lengthy post only to find I have been logged off before the post was completed. Very annoying but that is the way the board is operated. I do not use the "Remember me" because I do not want to remained logged on if I have computer issues on my end.

I agree that the timeout seems a bit too short. It may not be that the time is being consciously being changed back. The timeout change may be set longer, but not being made permanent. Any time the site restarts it may just revert to the shorter setting.
I find that remembering to click "Preview Post" keeps me logged in. Another option is to keep another tab open and just click back and forward on that occasionally. Any active open connection to the forum resets the time for all. For longer replies I often use Wordpad and then copy and paste the text to the forum.
Using Windows 7 Google Chrome if I wait too long I don't lose any text by needing to sign back in for "Preview Post". I just use the back arrow after re-logging in and return to my text. Other browsers may react differently.
I agree that the timeout should be a bit longer to make posting more friendly.
