Mobile App Changes

In the coming days forum access via the mobile app will be discontinued and we wanted to make you aware of some other options so that your surfing won't be interrupted.

Our forums software already has a mobile view with this same functionality.
Our forums software already has a mobile view with this same functionality. Use a browser to access the forum instead of the app. Transitioning to this view on smaller screens is straightforward and we'll add convenient links at the top of the page to help you navigate to the mobile-friendly view. You will find those links right at the top of the list of forums as you log in. Click the desired link to toggle the view.

In the coming months, we'll be moving to new software (exciting details soon) so this current change is a temporary one. Deprecating the mobile app has been a difficult choice but we are taking this step in an abundance of caution as security concerns for this aging platform increase. We take member privacy seriously and believe that the inconvenience caused by this change is outweighed by broader privacy issues. Thanks for understanding.

I've been using the mobile view for years. It works great!

One in the technology industry might ask...

Why JOF is still running on VB 3.8.8.b1 that was publicly announced to be end of life in December 2017.

Is there a plan to update the software to a supported version?

One piece of feedback, in mobile view, how do you mark all of the forums read?

As long as you allow cookie exchange with the site, it marks itself as having been read. When you go back to that thread or forum, if there are new posts, you will be taken to the new posts. New threads will have bolded titles, threads you've read will not be bold.

Janet, thanks for that.

The issue is that there are posts that I am not interested in reading. If there is no way to mark them all as read (once I have finished reading the posts that are pertinent for me), I would have to click on each post in the list, then go back to the list of new posts and repeat. Some days there are hundreds of posts (depending on when the last time I was on the forum), so that is not ideal, at least for me.

That was one of the nice features of Tapatalk. It kept my subscribed threads and private messages in their own section, and I could peruse all of the unread threads really easily. I know that ship has sailed; hopefully the added functionality to marks all threads as read could be added in some manner for mobile viewing.
