Photobucket images - not for forum use

Recently the image hosting service Photobucket changed their terms of use for account holders and no longer allow embedded images to be displayed on forums. As a result the forum had many threads lose their photo documentation.

Moving forward we will disallow links to Photobucket and ask that you store your images with the posted text that they were intended to augment, here on the forum.

Forum members can store images posts and threads using the attachment option found in the advanced reply editor or in photo albums set up in individual profiles. There is no cost to store images here and this will ensure that your content is not diminished by an image hosting service changing their minds about how your content is handled. Thanks for understanding.

I have heard lots of complaints about the service. I'm glad I never used it.

Unfortunately, I have almost 1000 images stored on photobucket. Then I found out I could not download the images either. None, zippo. I called them and asked whats the point of your service if I can't download them? I think many outraged customers made them change their policy. Then they said you could download once but not at full resolution. Apparently the real issue is their business model is obsolete. With the advent of the cloud, Google drive etc, a lot less people need only a photo hosting site.

Count on this service being gone in the next six months... Get what you have on this service back on your own equipment - or it will be lost forever.

Evolution takes it's toll to business that do not have a market anymore.

It may be. I just logged into my account and the popup saying they will no longer support third party hosting for free has been taken down. Mayhap enough people raised a ruction to make PB rethink their decision (I know I politely told them to stuff it).

I hadn't emailed yet myself due to not having saved all the pics back off of their site.....

Was going to do so once done.

Regardless, probably figure something different out from now on.

Would the forum masters consider changing their rule on editing posts so that those of us who want to can update old posts with pictures to local hosted links? JOF is the only forum I belong to that shuts down your ability to edit your posts after several minutes. I know this is to prevent people from revising their posts once an error is noted, but really, doesn't seem to be a problem on other forums I frequent.

I would certainly be willing to revisit my old posts to update with new images.

If you're using chrome, I downloaded the TOP extension that gives back the ability to view photos.

Good info - I am going to see if I can retrieve any of my mod photos... Tried a year or so back and could not even see what I had stored there - I just dropped everything and vacated their site.

I have no idea what I had stored there haha...

Every now and then i run across a photo I can't find anymore so I guess those were on their site back then.

I did retrieve a bunch of my mod PB photos that were stored on my local hard drives...

Just recently I was looking for my interior photos showing my Ham Radio setup in my OFF-ROAD Popup. No where to be found here at the house hehe... No big deal as I can retake new photos I reckon when I get some time to do it...

This is where using the cloud gives me great fears as well... I would never store anything on the CLOUDS unless I had them backed up on a local hard drive here somewhere... Things happen haha... You also don't know who has control over your cloud photos...

BTW - for those of you who were PB users, the whole thing turned out to be a tempest in a teapot. The company has been acquired by new ownership after the bad decisions taken by the former management, and although membership cost has risen slightly, you are still able to cross-post photos without issue. I have no problem on other forums I frequent, and all of my PB photos still display here on JOF without issue.
