"Thanks" options?
I've noticed on other V-bulletin forums that the "Thanks" displays at the bottom of posts. While it is nice to receive a PM'd Thanks here, on those other forums I will often just click "Thanks" as a quick way to acknowledge a reply. It saves typing and adding a new post.
Has Jayco Owners Forum considered using the alternate form of V-bulletin Thanks?

Thanks for your interest. We have considered other options but instead have opted for the more personalised thanks option you currently see. We have found that it increases actual member interactions and builds a tighter community.

I disagree. I think that other members being able to see that a poster was thanked for their post is more conducive to producing more interactions as in many cases it is more of an agree than a thanks.

What we have discovered over time is that a simple "click to thank" isn't as interactive as an actual message and some folks begin to collect thanks scores. The click becomes more about a points race than anything else.
Maybe "interactive" wasn't the right word choice on my part - it's about encouraging real dialogue and after trying out several different options this is the one that seemed best suited to this community. Every forum is a little different - they all have their own vibe and culture. JOF is super friendly and members are extremely helpful to one another; that said we can mull over options at the next software update.

Hey Vic, thanks for the thanks. I too agree with your suggestion.

I'd be happy if there was a "like" button, but it's not killing me to type a message.

I try to thank everyone that posts on a thread I created. If they took the time to respond to what I posted, then I will try to acknowledge them for their effort. I like the current system in place.
Maybe you can add a "nice post" or "interesting topic" quick button next to the thanks box.

I think that's a good idea, the "nice post" or "interesting topic" quick button.

Very much agree! ~ friendly and helpful! However, when you next mull, please consider fostering a stronger collaborative relationship between the forum posts and the Social Group posts. Do know the group moderators sure would appreciate the administrators strategizing a more interactive relationship ... one that empowers the groups to more efficiently and effectively inter-relate with the JOF visitors! Please review the EMAILING SOCIAL GROUP MEMBERS thread for ideas and suggestions posed by a few moderators striving to grow their special interest membership; maybe you could interview or poll us on tightening the relationship??

My experience to date is that 90% of the Thanks just include the canned text. No additional personal comments. (Not that no comment is a problem.)
In fact, I'm often not even certain exactly what post is being referenced. The only indication as to what post is associated seems to be a post ID number which is not even clickable.
It's a very minor thing. Just thought that I'd ask. Thanks for the reply.

I think it's more personal when it's not made public.... So I enjoy the current way it's done. jmho

The Thanks feature currently being used provides a link to the post that was Thanked. Click the link and it'll take you to the post.

I saw the standard note at the top of the automated message.
eg.
"Note: This is an automated message regarding this post:
http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=288386"
Thinking that was the only related information I missed the color highlight and the fact that " this post" is a link included within the automated text.
Thanks for the reply. vic

Just as a comparison, 35% of all the "Thanks" I've received have included a personal comment. Comment or no, I'm elated whenever someone has taken the time to send me one.
