What is the logic behind limited file attachments???

what is the reasoning for allowing large file attachments to posts... unless it is a .pdf document?

I also have found the .pdf size limitation to be a hindrance. When the document I want to share is online I can link to it, but when it is my own and too large I cannot attach. I wonder why pictures can be quite large but not an Acrobat file? I'm no IT expert and it would be nice to know why!

Don’t know either. All my stored pics are reduced in size automatically when uploaded. Other forums that don’t just shoot a msg saying “ file to large to upload”

At a guess... most large files are images, which can be fairly easily compressed or resized by the site.
PDF files are already as compressed as they're going to get, and you can't resize them without removing some of the content.

Good answer I suspect. As an owner of a pretty slow DSL line thru our phone company, I am well experienced with friends and family that want to send me a 5 trillion Mbite file containing all there vacation pics. If I let that thing run all night and all day for a month it wouldn't load.

Putting file limits on the site helps by preventing extra large files [think friends and family] from hosing up the site for the rest of us. Not sure how file compression works, but suspect it helps prevent the problem. People ask why you are limited in characters on a text or twitter?? Same answer and it prevents missuse of the service.

I hear so much about the "cloud". I'll have to pump my geek whiz kid friend the next time I see him, a link to docs in the cloud a possibility?

I look up and see them clouds all the time and pay a fee every month but never see anything up there that looks like my data.

Our stuff is backed up in the icloud and I can access them from my laptop or iphone. They used to be stored to size but now have come out with a new format that makes them smaller. Called HEIC files?

I can't keep up with changes anymore.

Well I was right on that one. Kim, the Digital Goddess is usually spot on.

There is a HEIF file also. Something to do with MACS.

High Efficiency Image Format : More pics in less space including with audio, 'sposed to have deeper, truer, and more colors too.
