Amish Family

An Amish husband, wife and son travel to the city on vacation. They visit a shopping mall and while the mother is shopping, the father and son are standing in awe in front of an elevator (having no idea what it is). As they watch, an elderly lady walks into the strange silver doors and the doors close. The father and son watch as the numbers go up, and then back down. When the doors open, a beautiful young woman walks out. The father leans over and whispers to the son, “Son, go get your mother!”

HAHAHAHAHA! Love it! FWIW, yesterday I took a day off from our camping trip and spent the day working at the little church where I'm pastor. The church is located in southern Lancaster County, PA, and is *completely* surrounded by Amish farms. While I was out front changing the sign, several Amish drove by in their buggies - they always give me friendly waves. Great neighborhood.

True story and not humor related. Back in 1998, I was part of a disaster recover team that went in to the Salisbury Somerset County area after a tornado outbreak. We worked for the better part of a week helping to clean up around the Amish farms that were hit.

Fast forward to 2016. The Connellsville area here was hit with a massive flash flood that destroyed many homes and damaged hundreds of others.

While we were working the first day after the storms, 2 busses showed up at one of our staging areas. Sure enough, it was the very same Amish men that we worked with nearly 20 years ago there to help us. What an awesome group of hard working people. They stayed with us for days until we had people rescued and the cleanup process well underway. I have such a respect for the them.

I've spend many, memorable, long Summer weekends in Lancaster County at what use to be the Willow Valley Inn (I could narrate the bus tour of Amish country). There are a lot of fun and interesting things to do in the area (Hersey Park, Sight & Sound Threater, all sorts of shopping, etc.) and of course there is Intercourse (inside joke).

RK how do you like your Jay Feather? We have a 2017 RLSW and love ours, very trouble free even after a lot of use.
