Burma Shave

Another post mentioned Wall Drug signs, reminded me of the old Burma Shave signs I used to read while skipping school once a year to ride along with my dad, a traveling salesman in Iowa and Nebraska. Some have stayed with me for over fifty years. My favorite is: Don't Lose Your Head to Save a Minute - You Need Your Head, Your Brains are In It. Have you got memories of any of them? No fair looking them up on Google. :jester:

I actually saw a string of them somewhere up in Utah or Wyoming a little over a year ago.

My favorite Burma Shave jingle never appeared on any of the roadside signs but in an issue of Mad Magazine instead. It went as follows:

Her guy's whiskers
just don't faze her.

He shaves with
electric razor.

Why bother with
Burma Shave?

LadyF, we flew by one jingle while in Montana earlier this month, but alas, we weren't able to read it.

I'm tempted to Google them but I won't. Even though I remember numerous signs on Route 66 in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in the 60's, I can't remember the wording on any of them...but they were entertaining for sure.

They sure were. We lived in a whole other country then in many ways.

"Don't take this curve at sixty per, we'd hate to lose a customer!"
"He was clean, had no B.O., had whiskers so she let him go."

Same here. We were by them before we realized what they were. The same friend and I are heading up to Wyoming on the same route in about a couple of weeks so I'll try to keep and eye out for them.

A Man, a Miss, a car, a curve.
He kissed the Miss, and missed the curve.
